PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hector Vargas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cory Landers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Landers tries to close the distance and clinch but Vargas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Vargas stuffs the takedown attempt from Landers. Landers gets slowly back to his feet.

Vargas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Vargas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Landers is desperately trying to improve his position but Vargas has a good base and remains in mount.

Vargas is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Landers has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Landers!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Landers is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Landers drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Landers jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Vargas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Landers gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Vargas has his foot on Landers's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Landers works his way back into a safe position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Vargas has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Landers is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Vargas.
