PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Bassfish (ranked 5297 p4p, 4783 weight class) and Maxwell Leaf (ranked 573 p4p, 544 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Maxwell Leaf!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Percy O'Donnell.

Leaf looking to score a takedown here. Bassfish is defending well but Leaf drives through and ends up in Bassfish 's guard.
Leaf not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Leaf really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bassfish . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Let's hope that Leaf has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Leaf throws a strike but Bassfish rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Leaf is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bassfish is controlling him.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Leaf can do anything to dispel that myth.

Bassfish fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Leaf to the ground. Bassfish is now in Leaf's guard.

Leaf is looking to stand up but Bassfish isn't so interested in that idea.

Leaf has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Bassfish has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Leaf is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Bassfish is working for takedown but Leaf is calmly controlling the position for now.
Leaf is looking to take this one to the mat.

Bassfish manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Leaf throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bassfish works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Leaf bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bassfish bucks up and tries to throw Leaf off but instead Leaf has got his back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bassfish wants to escape the position.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Leaf controlling the positon.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
It looks like Leaf might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Bassfish trying to control the position but Leaf manages to sink in the hooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maxwell Leaf dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Leaf closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bassfish quickly recovers to half guard.
Leaf drops an elbow to the side of Bassfish 's head.
Bassfish is trying to maintain the position but Leaf is very close to passing his half guard.
Bassfish moves into full guard.
Bassfish can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Leaf controls the pace.
Leaf must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Bassfish is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Leaf is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bassfish tries to clinch but Leaf moves away
and Leaf counters with a nice body shot.
Bassfish 's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Bassfish duly obliges.

Leaf closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bassfish did well to prevent Leaf getting side control.

Leaf seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Leaf is nestled in close to Bassfish , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Leaf tries to pass to full mount but Bassfish defends it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bassfish wants to get back to his feet.
Leaf thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bassfish 's head.
Leaf is nestled in close to Bassfish , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Well, if Leaf is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Leaf.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Bassfish misses with a wild combination.

Leaf closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bassfish to the mat! Bassfish manages to get full guard.

Bassfish has an active guard here but Leaf has managed to pass into half guard.
Bassfish is pressing down on Leaf's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Bassfish throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Bassfish controls Leaf momentarily but Leaf frees himself.
Leaf seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Bassfish has momentary wrist control but Leaf slips an elbow through the middle.

A close second round but Maxwell Leaf will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Maxwell Leaf is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Bassfish is looking to get back to his feet here but Leaf is keeping cool and he's managed to take Bassfish 's back.
Leaf keeps control of the position as Bassfish tries to break free.
Bassfish just trying to survive but Leaf is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Bassfish is trying to get back to his feet but Leaf has full control of the position and if anything, Bassfish has just worked his way into a worse spot.
You can see the frustration on Bassfish 's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Leaf has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Leaf has the hooks in. Bassfish is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Maxwell Leaf has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bassfish looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
What can Bassfish do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Maxwell Leaf comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Leaf winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
