The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Anderson instigates a clinch.
Volkenhause wants the takedown. Anderson is fighting it off but Volkenhause persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Anderson's guard against the cage. Anderson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Volkenhause tries to free his leg and advance position but Anderson is retaining full guard. Anderson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Volkenhause engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Volkenhause trying to control but Anderson is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Volkenhause stopping the sweep attempt from Anderson. Anderson has control of Volkenhause's left arm, preventing Volkenhause from doing any damage. Volkenhause sitting in guard here, content to control. Volkenhause pushes down on Anderson's leg and manages to get into half guard.
