Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Cote (ranked 5481 p4p, 4295 weight class) and John Diaz (ranked 613 p4p, 543 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gabriel Cote!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, John Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.

Diaz misses with a takedown

and Cote counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Cote.
Diaz tries for a takedown but Cote manages to get underhooks.

Cote is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Diaz can't fight it off and eventually Cote manages to take the fight to the floor. Diaz looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Diaz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Diaz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz is trying to maintain the position but Cote is very close to passing his half guard.

Cote escapes and gets back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Horrible takedown attempt by Diaz or perhaps it was just good defense by Cote, which made it look bad.
Gabriel Cote has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Diaz.

Diaz shoots for a double leg takedown but Cote sprawls well. He's pushed Diaz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Cote throws a big counter combination but Diaz scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cote is looking to work some ground and pound but Diaz has wrist control.

Diaz isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Cote stacks Diaz on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Cote!

Cote knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Diaz on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Cote tries to score with some ground and pound. Diaz controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Cote decides to stand up, so the ref orders Diaz to his feet.
Diaz uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cote.
Diaz shoots in looking for a takedown. Cote tries to sprawl out of it but Diaz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cote manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
John Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

I was talking to Cote's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Cote escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Cote stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Diaz is working an open guard so Cote takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Cote closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Diaz has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cote is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
