PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Barron (ranked 5016 p4p, 4909 weight class) and Javi Solinas (ranked 71 p4p, 441 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Jonathan Paton and Steve Montenegro.

Barron misses with a takedown attempt

and Solinas counters by clinching up.

Solinas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Barron gets caught flat footed, as Solinas shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Solinas is working Barron over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Solinas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barron swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Barron really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Barron wants to control the position but Solinas says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Solinas thows a huge punch but Barron dodges it nicely.

Solinas stands up out of the half guard.
Solinas tries to land a front kick but Barron steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Solinas throws a nice looking combination but Barron bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A little feinted left hand from Barron on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Solinas closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Solinas tries to advance to mount but Barron denies him.

Barron is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Barron is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Solinas's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Barron wants to get back to full guard but Solinas has mounted him!

Solinas gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Barron stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Barron wants it to stay on the feet.

Solinas wants to take the fight to the mat but Barron manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Bob Barron has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Javi Solinas.
Solinas misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Barron.

Barron breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Barron throws a half hearted mid kick.
Barron looks for a takedown but Solinas sprawls well.
Barron misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Barron shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Solinas as he jumps to the side.

Solinas shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Barron's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Solinas engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Barron throws a leg kick which misses Solinas's front leg but catches the back leg as Solinas tries to avoid it.

Solinas shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Barron kicks off Solinas and gets to his feet.
Solinas dives in for a single leg takedown but Barron sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Barron lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

It looks like Javi Solinas has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Barron moves in looking to clinch but Solinas pushes him off.
Solinas drops his hands momentarily and Barron takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Solinas fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Barron to the ground. Solinas is now in Barron's guard.
Barron is wriggling around but Solinas manages to pass to half guard.

Javi Solinas has got the better of the ground game so far.
Solinas looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Barron with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Solinas wants to control but Barron is keeping him busy.

Solinas is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Barron doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Solinas.
Solinas is nestled in close to Barron, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Solinas is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Barron!

Solinas is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Barron is surviving well by controlling Solinas's body position as best he can.

Barron's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Barron sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Solinas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Barron wants to get back to full guard.
Solinas wants to pass to mount but Barron is defending the position.
Barron is trying to maintain the position but Solinas is very close to passing his half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Solinas is nestled in close to Barron, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Solinas takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Solinas bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Solinas looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Barron is fending him off so far but Solinas persists. Nope, Barron circles away and we're back to standing.

Solinas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barron's waist but Barron gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Solinas off to one side.
Barron seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Barron is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Solinas clinches up with Barron and pushes him back against the cage.

Solinas works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Barron.
Despite the aggression on Solinas's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Solinas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barron's waist but Barron gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Solinas off to one side.

Barron lands with a hook. Solinas tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Barron seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Solinas closes this distance looking for a takedown but Barron circles away.
Barron tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Solinas manages to circle out of the way.

Barron is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Solinas pulls him back up using the underhooks.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
