PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mr Mangan (ranked 4890 p4p, 3576 weight class) and Alan Oh (ranked 0 p4p, 185 weight class). Mangan comes to the cage accompanied by Xie hua piao piao. On his way into the cage it seems that Mr Mangan has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mr Mangan seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mr Mangan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alan Oh!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Santiago Holmes and Sandra Marshall.

Oh shoots in looking for a takedown. Mangan tries to sprawl out of it but Oh keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mangan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Oh throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mangan.

Oh closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mangan did well to prevent Oh getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Oh lands a nice short elbow.
Mangan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mangan tries to roll over but Oh keeps him under control.
Oh is keen to just control but Mangan is a slippery customer.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mangan is looking for a sweep. Oh is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Mangan trying to hold on to Oh's head to control him but Oh postures up.
Oh looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Oh takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Oh should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Mangan cracks Oh with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Mangan connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Oh tries to sprawl but Mangan drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Oh is looking to improve his position.
Mangan is thwarting Oh's attempts to control the position.
Mangan slows the pace down in half guard.
Oh is controlling Mangan's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Mangan content to control rather than advance.

Oh tries to get to full guard but Mangan has control of the leg.
Oh tries to kick Mangan off but Mangan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Oh has his takedown stuffed
and Mangan counters with a two punch combo.
Oh throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Mangan to counter with a crisp jab.
Oh shoots and misses
and Mangan counters with a left to the body.

Mangan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Oh sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mangan somewhat.

Mangan moves into range and clinches up with Oh.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mangan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Mangan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Oh, pushing him back against the cage.

Oh has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mangan uses from the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Oh shoots for a takedown but Mangan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

The fighters circle momentarily. Mangan darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

A frustrated look appears on Mangan's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Mangan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Oh as he avoids it easily.
Mangan stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mangan wants it to stay on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Mangan manages to break the clinch.

Oh shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Mangan manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Oh has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Mangan after a bit of a struggle.

Mangan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Crunch! Oh slams his shin into Mangan's torso.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Oh counters with a big head kick but Mangan shrugs it off.
Oh shoots in and drives through. Mangan sprawls well.
Oh swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Oh is breathing heavily.

Mangan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Oh, pushing him back against the cage.

Mangan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Oh tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mangan defends well and Oh ends up having to push Mangan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Oh throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mangan's waist but Mangan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Oh off to one side.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Mangan wants a takedown but no success here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Mangan dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Mangan darts in and clinches Oh up against the cage.
Oh wants to get back to striking at distance but Mangan won't allow it.
Mangan has Oh pressed against the cage, preventing Oh from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Mangan makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Mangan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mangan shoots in looking for a takedown. Oh tries to sprawl out of it but Mangan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Oh manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mr Mangan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mangan is trying to drag Oh to the mat but Oh just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Oh accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mangan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mangan tries to get out of the position.
Oh wants to control from the top but Mangan keeps moving.
Oh is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Oh drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Oh jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Oh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mangan as he avoids it easily.
Mangan throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Oh makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Mangan rushes Oh and presses him up against the cage.
Mangan fails to pull guard.
Oh tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Mangan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Oh pushes Mangan off and scrambles back to his feet.

Alan Oh comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mangan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
