PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kaoru Nagashima (ranked 4264 p4p, 25245 weight class) and Bruce Wayne (ranked 394 p4p, 570 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Nagashima tries to keep at a distance but Wayne has taken the fight into the clinch.
Nagashima avoids a wild elbow strike from Wayne.
Nagashima has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Wayne avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Nagashima tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Wayne with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Wayne throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Nagashima blocks it with crossed arms.
Wayne with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Wayne tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Nagashima manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
I was talking to Nagashima's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Wayne looking to throw knees to the head but Nagashima is blocking nicely.

Nagashima has clasped his hands together around Wayne's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Wayne is looking to get back to his feet here but Nagashima is keeping cool and he's managed to take Wayne's back.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nagashima is working for a rear naked choke. Wayne is not defending it well and Nagashima has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Wayne refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Wayne's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kaoru Nagashima!
After the fight, Kaoru Nagashima was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
