The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makoniko shoots and misses
and Khan counters with a two punch combo.
Nice takedown defense from Khan. No joy for Makoniko on that attempt.
Khan looks to land a combination but Makoniko avoids it well.
Khan lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Khan throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Makoniko.
As Makoniko looks to move away, Khan throws a big counter combo but Makoniko just gets out of the way.
We've been hearing reports that Khan has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Isaac Khan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Makoniko.
Khan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Makoniko shoots in for a takedown but Khan shows good takedown defense.
Khan pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Makoniko back to the cage. Khan follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Khan enables Makoniko to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Khan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Makoniko postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Makoniko's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Makoniko lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Makoniko's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Makoniko is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Makoniko working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Khan's head.
Makoniko wants to control from the top but Khan keeps moving.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Makoniko is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Makoniko is pushing down on Khan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Khan is fighting to maintain full guard but Makoniko has managed to sneak the leg through.

Makoniko lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Makoniko lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Makoniko working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Khan is rocked!
Khan is breathing heavily.
Makoniko trying to control from half guard but Khan is working away.
Makoniko winds up and cracks Khan with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Makoniko lands with a punch from half guard.
Makoniko stops Khan from getting back to his feet.
Khan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Oh Khan is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Makoniko lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Khan quite badly. Khan pulls Makoniko in close trying to recover. Makoniko postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Khan on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Khan doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chris Makoniko!
