Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Zapp (ranked 2498 p4p, 2587 weight class) and James Howlett (ranked 339 p4p, 346 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny Zapp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Howlett!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.

Howlett leaves Zapp with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Zapp fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Howlett's coach down at The Forge was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Howlett's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Zapp drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Zapp's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Howlett really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Zapp. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We've been hearing good reports from Zapp's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Howlett manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Zapp is trying to pull guard but Howlett turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Zapp shoots in and drives through. Howlett sprawls well.

Howlett tries to sprawl but Zapp drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Zapp darts in looking for a takedown but Howlett gets double underhooks and turns Zapp into the cage.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Zapp is on top in guard.

You can see the frustration on Howlett's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Zapp tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Zapp has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Howlett is trying to maintain the position but Zapp is very close to passing his half guard.
Howlett makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Howlett.

Zapp stands up over Howlett, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Zapp drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Howlett dives on top into guard.

Zapp jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Howlett walks away with a smile on his face. Zapp gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Johnny Zapp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Zapp is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Howlett to keep the fight standing.
