Undercard bout

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maximus Meridius (ranked 7917 p4p, 624 weight class) and Mikey Eastman (ranked 6129 p4p, 580 weight class). Eastman is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Go Ninja Go. Mikey Eastman told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eastman gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Meridius.
Meridius stuns Eastman with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Eastman takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Eastman walks into a stiff left hand from Meridius.
Meridius has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Meridius throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Eastman on the side of the head.
Eastman takes one to the chin there.
A punch lands to the side of Eastman 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Meridius thuds a left hand into Eastman's body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Meridius darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Meridius throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Meridius swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Meridius bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Eastman's head.
Eastman walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Meridius checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
A little feinted left hand from Meridius on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Meridius scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

and Meridius counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Eastman doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Meridius moves into range and connects with a jab.
Meridius is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.

Meridius drops Eastman with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Eastman looks back up at him and smiles so Meridius waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Eastman is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Meridius lands a jab to the head.
Eastman is still on wobbly legs! Can Meridius finish him?
Meridius cracks Eastman on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Eastman falls backwards against the cage. Meridius follows up with more strikes that drop Eastman to his knees. Meridius keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Eastman! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Maximus Meridius!

Wright fails with the takedown.
Haggus looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Haggus tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wright swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Haggus is looking for a sweep. Wright is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Wright winds up and cracks Haggus with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Wright looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Haggus with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Wright is nestled in close to Haggus, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Wright lands a nice short elbow.

Wright is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Oh Haggus is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Wright is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Haggus doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wright.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wright stalling away here and it's allowed Haggus to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Possibly an early stoppage but Haggus doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

It looks like Khali Mukafi has been cut.
The crowd cheers as Sigthordisson lands an impressive looking overhand right. Mukafi doesn't seem phased though.

Mukafi takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Sigthordisson lands a nice shot that snaps Mukafi's head back.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Horrible takedown attempt by Mukafi or perhaps it was just good defense by Sigthordisson, which made it look bad.
Mukafi shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sigthordisson defends it nicely.
Mukafi takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Mukafi takes one to the chin there.

The cut above Khali Mukafi's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Mukafi on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Sigthordisson connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Mukafi tumbling to the canvas! Sigthordisson pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Mukafi was done - good stoppage!

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

King swings wildly with an uppercut but Slamenkov uses good head movement to avoid it.

King leaves Slamenkov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

King stands up over Slamenkov, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Slamenkov wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Slamenkov controls King momentarily but King frees himself.
King postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
King has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
King won't allow Slamenkov to sweep him here.

King looking to sit in guard and control but Slamenkov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Slamenkov drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Slamenkov as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! King screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Slamenkov! Nice submission victory there!

Valentino swings for the body but Andreas moves out of range.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Valentino has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Valentino will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Good exchange - Valentino coming out on top.

Valentino feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Andreass jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Andreas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Valentino tries to avoid it but Andreas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Valentino to the ground. Valentino escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Andreas takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
