The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good shot there by Jasper.
Pedan lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Pedan rushes Jasper and presses him up against the ropes.
Pedan is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Pedan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pedan takes a kick to the side of the head.
Pedan lands a right hook to the body.
Pedan connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Pedan tries a head kick but it misses.

Jasper gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

I was talking to Jasper's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Jasper chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Pedan can pounce on him.
Pedan swats away the attempt to clinch by Jasper.
Jasper shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pedan as he avoids it easily.

Davison stands up over Overeem, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Chris Davison decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.

Sakata lands with a good body shot.
Sakata throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Zilla stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Zilla on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Zilla throws a front kick that sends Sakata stumbling back into the ropes.

and Sakata cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Zilla doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Sakata comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Zilla tries to throw a body punch but Sakata avoids it by throwing Zilla back against the ropes.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Sakata breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sakata works the jab nicely.
Zilla scores with a push kick.
Zilla dives in and grabs Sakata's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sakata pushes down on Zilla's head and hops out.
Sakata misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Sakata cracks Zilla with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Zilla looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Sakata finish him?

Zilla is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Zilla walks straight into a right hand from Sakata - that's dropped him! Sakata jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Zilla from any more punishment! Zilla complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Mitsuomi Sakata!
Post fight, an emotional Mitsuomi Sakata said 'Minnasan, arigatou gozaimasu! Ore wa sugoku ureshii desu! Yatta!'.
