Smalls feints and then cracks Makunouchi's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Makunouchi down.
Smalls looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Makunouchi is fending him off so far but Smalls persists. Nope, Makunouchi circles away and we're back to standing.
Smalls throws a right hand that Makunouchi ducks under and follows up with a left that Makunouchi also avoids with ease.

and Smalls connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Makunouchi lands a nice shot that snaps Smalls's head back.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Smalls feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Makunouchi is pulling down on Smalls's head. It's preventing any offense from Smalls, at least for the moment.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Reggie Smalls.

Sauvage blocks a head kick by Obata.
Sauvage tries to clinch up.
Sauvage pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

and Obata counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Sauvage walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Obata throws a nice looking combination but Sauvage bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Obata counters with a nice leg kick.
Good leg kick by Obata there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sauvage does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Sauvage clinches up with Obata and pushes him back against the cage.

Sauvage keeps control of Obata as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Sauvage trying to land knees to the body.
Sauvage changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Obata fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Obata darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Sauvage is still on wobbly legs! Can Obata finish him?

Obata lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Sauvage up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Obata from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Sauvage's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.

An intense looking Ozuma Obata took to the microphone post fight and gave a little speech: 'My back was to the wall after the last 3 losses and I was questioning if I could still do this.
