Riordan drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Samvesu can do anything to dispel that myth.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Riordan thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Taines fails with an attempt to clinch.
Taines tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Ryu manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Taines has a takedown stuffed.
Ryu throws a leg kick which misses Taines's front leg but catches the back leg as Taines tries to avoid it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Taines is defended easily by Ryu.

Ryu moves into range and clinches up with Taines.
Taines tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ryu just stands there and leans against the ropes.
Evil Ryu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Turbo Taines.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ely closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.
Kavcic has Ely pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Ely manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Ely breaks the clinch.
Kavcic shoots and misses
and Ely connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kavcic shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Ely counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Joesph Ely has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Blas Kavcic.

Ely shoots in for a takedown. He's got it... He's hoisted his opponent over his head and is carrying him over to the other end of the mat. The crowd roars in approval and Ely slams his opponent to the mat. OH, that is naaaaaasty! He's out! Ely lands a punch to his unconscious victim for good measure before the ref has time to call the fight.

Cirus shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Conan napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Cirus goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Conan rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Cirus's guard! Nice work there by Conan!
Cirus is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Conan looking to pass the guard.
Conan landing some decent shots from guard.
Conan pushes down on Cirus's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Cirus looking for submissions off his back.
Conan looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Conan looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Conan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cirus's head.
Cirus wants to improve his position but Conan is controlling well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Conan slips a nice elbow through Cirus's hands, connecting with Cirus's forehead.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cirus is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Conan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Conan drops an elbow to the side of Cirus's head.
Conan is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Cirus!

Cirus is desperately trying to improve his position but Conan has a good base and remains in mount.
Cirus is in a horrible position here. Conan smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Conan looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Cirus covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
