The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hoehne shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Byrd is trying to defend but Hoehne finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Hoehne wants to pass the guard but Byrd is defending well.

Hoehne drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hoehne jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Byrd working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hoehne doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hoehne manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Byrd has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Hoehne. Oh but Byrd has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Hoehne goes limp - he's gone! Byrd jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Rio is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dave Rio.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Carole is fighting to break Silva's control of his arms but Silva is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Silva's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
