The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

King tries to keep at a distance but Palermo has taken the fight into the clinch.
Palermo is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

King has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Palermo after a bit of a struggle.

It looks like Jone King has been cut.

King tries a head kick but it misses.
King loads up on a big right hand but Palermo slips the punch.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Palermo can do anything to dispel that myth.

King has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Michaels lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Michaels throws a series of punches but Smith avoids them all with ease.

and Smith counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Michaels's guard now.
Smith must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Smith drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Michaels dives on top into guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Phil Michaels will probably get the nod.

Michaels feints a jab promting Smith to slip. Michaels then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Smith slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Smith is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Michaels's half guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Phil Michaels.
I think Michaels has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

McKenzie swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Schiller is now in McKenzie's guard. A big mistake from McKenzie there, giving up the dominant position!
