Smith can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight.

Noonan turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Noonan manages to end up in side control.

Noonan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smith, who protects the arm well.
You can see the frustration on Smith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Smith tries to bench press Noonan off him but Noonan keeps the position.

Noonan tries to score with some ground and pound. Smith controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Noonan wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Noonan is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Smith has escaped the position, nice work there.
Smith on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Smith tries to get out of the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Smith tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Noonan wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Noonan fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Smith looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Noonan uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Smith has time to react.
Noonan turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Noonan shoots in for a takedown but Smith shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Noonan can't find room to land a body shot as Smith controls the action.
Noonan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
