Machado's corner calls for a 1-2. Machado obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

It looks like Scott Thorpe has been cut.
Thorpe takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Thorpe tries to move into range but Machado moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Thorpe tries to score a power double leg takedown but Machado sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Thorpe somewhat.
Thorpe shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Machado sprawls well. Machado wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Thorpe gets slowly back to his feet.
Thorpe throws a wild body kick that Machado sees coming a mile off.
Horrible takedown by Thorpe or perhaps it was just good defense by Machado which made him look bad.

Thorpe with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Machado to score with a decent uppercut.

Machado feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Thorpes jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Oh Thorpe is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Machado ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Thorpe seems to have got his legs back now.
Thorpe closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Machado cracks Thorpe with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Scott Thorpe's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Machado thuds his right hand into Thorpe's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Thorpe misses with a takedown attempt - Machado sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Thorpe changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Machado tries to avoid it but Thorpe manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Machado to the ground. Machado escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Mendes lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Mendes stuffs the takedown.
Mendes lands with a right hand.
Mendes throws a series of punches but Valesquez moves out of range.

Mendes stalks Valesquez and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Valesquez's face. Valesquez staggers backwards, shaken.

Valesquez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mendes's waist but Mendes gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Valesquez off to one side.

and Valesquez counters with a nice leg kick.
Mendes throws a right hand that Valesquez ducks under and follows up with a left that Valesquez also avoids with ease.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A lazy left from Mendes finds it's target.
Valesquez has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Valesquez there as he acknowledges the shot.
Mendes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Valesquez moves out of range as Mendes throws a body kick.

Valesquez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Valesquez maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Mendes could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Valesquez has cracked it and Mendes is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Valesquez!
