The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith lands with a good body shot.
Smith connects with a body shot that sends Boxer's belly button to the back.
Barbara Boxer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Boxer shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Smith's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Boxer.
Smith is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Boxer keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Boxer thuds his shin into the meat of Smith's side.
Boxer scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Boxer shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Smith manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Smith isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Boxer stacks Smith on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Boxer!

The referee asks Boxer politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Boxer prefers to stall for the moment though.
You can see the frustration on Smith's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Boxer here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Boxer content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Smith is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Boxer has cracked Smith with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Boxer lands another huge swinging hook and Smith tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Smith, before Boxer can land any more shots!
