Birmiski tries to bum rush Smithy with a series of wild strikes but Smithy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Smithy tries to close the distance and clinch but Birmiski swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Smithy throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Smithy lands an elbow that stopped Birmiski in his tracks for a moment.
Birmiski blocks the elbow strike.
Smithy misses with some punches.
Smithy tries a body shot but Birmiski blocks it.

Birmiski escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown by Birmiski or perhaps it was just good defense by Smithy which made him look bad.

Birmiski takes a kick to the side of the head.
Smithy swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Birmiski misses with a low kick as Smithy jumps back.

Smithy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Birmiski throws the left hand but Smithy avoids the punch easily.

and Smithy makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Birmiski really felt that one!

Birmiski closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Smithy is not content to let Birmiski control the position.
