Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Randjob Gracie!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Rae!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rae throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
No joy there for Rae, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

A big left from Rae misses.
Rae throws a jab but it's blocked by Gracie.
Gracie lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Gracie slips under a jab from Rae.
Rae scores with a nice body kick.
Rae lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gracie at a distance.
Rae swings for the body but Gracie moves out of range.
A swing and a miss from Rae.
Rae throws a lazy uppercut
and Gracie counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Rae thinking.
Gracie throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Rae connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

letting Rae counter with a right hand.
Rae bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Gracie's head.

enabling Rae to counter with a crisp jab.
Gracie misses the shot to the body.
Rae throws a front kick that sends Gracie stumbling back into the cage.

and Gracie takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Rae throws a poor cross that misses

and Gracie counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rae's guard now.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Rae working for submissions but it's allowed Gracie to get to half guard.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but Rae is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gracie to get the leverage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rae is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rae wants to get back to full guard but Gracie has mounted him!
Rae is trying desperately to improve position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gracie throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rae tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gracie is in Rae's guard.

Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Rae is retaining full guard.

Rae is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gracie is aware though and is defending well.

Rae tries to reverse the position but Gracie maintains control.

Gracie jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Rae manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Rae tries to buck Gracie off but Gracie is having none of it.

Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Gracie throws a jab when Rae was well out of range.
Rae moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Rae connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gracie's hands.
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown. Rae tries to sprawl out of it but Gracie keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rae manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rae is trying to get back to full guard.
Rae wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Rae is looking to control Gracie's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rae avoid being mounted?
