The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cottingham closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Borisov to the mat! Borisov manages to get full guard.

Cottingham thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Cottingham has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Borisov is controlling Cottingham's posture.
Borisov throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Cottingham postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Borisov is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Cottingham, into his guard.

Cottingham has his foot on Borisov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Borisov works his way back into a safe position though.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Duke Cottingham.

McDermott looks for the body kick but James saw that one coming.
James keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
McDermott thuds a left hand into James's body.

McDermott drives through and clinches with James against the cage.
James wants a takedown.
James is trying to drag McDermott to the mat but McDermott just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

James is fighting off a takedown attempt but McDermott is just too persistent for him and manages to trip James to the mat. James regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
