The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clarke lands a head kick that stumbles Boyle and the fighters go to the mat.

Boyle is rocked!

It looks like Fred Boyle has been cut.

Boyle working for a triangle but Clarke defends it easily.
Boyle is still in real trouble! Can Clarke finish him?

Boyle working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Clarke doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Clarke manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Boyle seems to have recovered his senses.

Clarke got a little sloppy there for a moment and Boyle has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Clarke has managed to get both his arms back between Boyle's legs - danger averted.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Clarke has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Boyle is proving hard to escape from.

Boyle controls Clarke momentarily but Clarke frees himself.

Boyle had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Clarke is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Boyle Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Clarke's back instead.
Boyle is looking to control Clarke but Clarke is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Boyle is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Clarke knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Clarke for a finish.

Boyle has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Clarke has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Clarke is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Boyle is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Clarke is defending well though. Boyle let's go of the attempt for now.

Clarke wants to get up but he can't break Boyle's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boyle has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Clarke can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Clarke wanted to stand there but Boyle had control of the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Boyle is on top in guard.

Clarke has his foot on Boyle's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Boyle works his way back into a safe position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Boyle throws a solid leg kick but Clarke takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Boyle.
Randal Clarke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Clarke keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Boyle tries a head kick but it misses.

Clarke tries to close the distance and clinch but Boyle swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Boyle shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Boyle showed some decent athleticism there.

Clarke knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Boyle on the ground.

Boyle is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Clarke can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Poor strikes thrown by Boyle there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

The fight stays on the outside here - Andersson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Pilkington kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is click me. Gracie drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rugg manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gracie has Rugg in his guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Matt Rugg.
