The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevens throws a right and a left that both miss.

Malkind shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Malkind showed some decent athleticism there.

Malkind is looking for a kimura here.
Malkind is trying to control. Stevens wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Malkind uses his free foot to push down on Stevens's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Stevens.

Malkind with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Stevens knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Malkind on the ground.

Malkind is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Stevens can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Malkind has hold of Stevens's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Stevens manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
