The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marsland has Smith up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Smith with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Smith has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Marsland regains guard immediately.

Marsland working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chris Marsland.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ness connects with a nice short shot to McClane's temple.

Ness tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McClane just stands there and leans against the cage.
McClane scores a nice knee to the body.

Ness sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed McClane's guard.
Ness is tying to control. McClane wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ness is nestled in close to McClane, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Ness is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McClane is just riding it out for now. Ness eventually gives up the hold.
