The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Parker tries to land knees in the clinch but McVey avoids the damage to the body.

McVey has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Parker uses from the top position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

McVey scrambles and gets back to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Parker enables McVey to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Parker manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

McVey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

McVey tries to close the distance and clinch up but Parker swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Parker should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
McVey throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
McVey misses with a few strikes there.
McVey lands a leg kick that knocks Parker off balance momentarily.

McVey moves into range and clinches up with Parker.

McVey throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

McVey working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Parker doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Parker manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
McVey will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McVey bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Parker's guard.

Parker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McVey. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pei lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Pei feints a jab promting Ovechkin to slip. Pei then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Ovechkin slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Pei tries to sprawl but Ovechkin drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ovechkin is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Pei is doing well to control the position and prevent Ovechkin from advancing to side control.

Ovechkin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pei does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
