GAMMA: Stelio Kontos Interview

Global Association of MMA, Fight Organization, London
Company profile by Mentor Guru Corleone

Because of the fact that Stelios doesn't speak English, the translator Giorgios Pradastadapalopulos will be the one who answers the questions in this interview.

He apologize in advance if something gets lost in translation.

Question #1 Stelios, welcome to GAMMA! You are a well known indy talent, why did you decide to join up with GAMMA?

“Thank you very much. I’m glad to be a part of the best and the most interesting org that GAMMA is at the moment.

I started out late with MMA, and it was mostly because I had to make a living and earn some quick money. Life in my home country Greece has taken the turn for the worse after the economic collapse a couple of years ago.

So I traveled overseas and started out in small arenas across the continent, from Hilo, to L A. and Montreal before I ended up in New York. Just scraping the bottom of the barrel to make a quick buck. But I had the luck to impress someone important, because I got because out of the blue I was offered a good contract to join GAMMA, which I didn't hesitate to accept. So, here I am. Making a decent living and having a great time doing so for GAMMA.”

Question #2 You are currently on a 7 fight winning streak, 2 wins in the past 2 fights in GAMMA. How does it feel to be on the best run in your career?

“What can I say? Thing are going my way at the moment, and I hope it stays that way for a long time. When you are in my situation, with the economic crisis and a starving family at home, you have something to fight for, something that drives you forward. And that drive is what keeping me winning at the moment. So it feels great to be able to feed your family back home.

Question #3 Prior to joining GAMMA all your wins were via KO, the 2 since joining were decision wins though, is this due to the tougher competition or possibly a change in tactics?

“It is the competition, by far. You just can’t step into the cage and start swinging like there is no tomorrow. When you sign up for GAMMA you have to expect that there are a truckload of other fighters that want to beat you senseless. And they are good at it kicking your ass too. So it gets harder and harder to KO other fighters, because if you mess up and make a mistake in the cage, you are the one that’s goin to be KOd. So I have to change my tactics to have a chance to score a win. And I don’t want to be at the recieving end of a savage beating to often, because I want to be able to speak in whole sentences when I stop doing MMA.”

Question #4 Several people have been calling you out as they consider you as a weaker link among the better 205lbs fighters, what do you have to say about those challengers and critics?

“Well, I don’t have any illusions that I’m a great dangerous fighter that will dominate everyone and everywhere.

However, I’m not a weak little lamb who is waiting to get slaughtered.

So let them call me weak and not worthy and all that nonsense. I’ll wait for them in the Cage to prove them wrong!”
