GAMMA #389: McGINLEY versus GRAVIUS REVIEW written by Furious Styles

APRIL 13, 2014   LOS ANGELES MEMORIAL COLISEUM      93,607 ATTENDANCE

Hello good folks, I hope all of you are well. This is your roaming reporter, Furious Styles, and I’m on the scene again at another exciting GAMMA event that has packed the Coliseum to the gills once again! We saw the Lightweight Championship on the line and it was an intense battle that left the crowd cheering and wanting more! So, without further ado…let’s get down to business.

MAIN CARD SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT EVENT: ANDERSON McGINLEY (19-5) versus “KNIGHT ERRANT” SELLUS GRAVIUS (18-7) of THE LEGION OF PAIN

These two heavy hitters pulled no punches and were very aggressive as soon as the bell rang! Gravius unleashed a stinging right cross that caught McGinley above the left eye and cut it open, but McGinley smiled, shrugged, and kept on going. Both warriors struggled to land clean, strong strikes from distance and the case was still the same when they went into the clinch. They didn’t stay in the clinch for long as they both determined they were getting nowhere fast.

After trying more strikes at distance, McGinley decided to try the clinch approach again and the second time around was the charm as he landed various damaging body blows on Gravius! Gravius began to slow a bit and McGinley saw that as well.  He broke the clinch then faked Gravius out with the old look low, kick high move and blasted Gravius with a tremendous right kick! Gravius was out on his feet and McGinley won via KNOCKOUT VICTORY and earned the KO of the Night as well!

MAIN CARD LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT EVENT: JONNY “THE ANGEL” VICTORIO (41-16-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS versus “HELLBENT” ROGER DUNOWEVIL (26-13) of THE LEGION OF PAIN

Fans were treated to a standup war for this fight! The action was back and forth with both men landing painful, damaging punches and kicks until Victorio shifted the momentum of the fight with a crushing left cross that opened a cut above Dunowevil’s right eye! Victorio stepped up his level of aggression but both warriors struggled to land a string of unguarded strikes.
Dunowevil did his best to take this fight to the ground but was unsuccessful and that energy spent slowed him a bit more and opened him up for Victorio’s attack. Victorio caught Dunowevil off guard with a lighting quick right head kick that stunned him and Victorio was on him, raining down punches until the referee had to stop the action! Victorio earned the TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT VICTORY!

MAIN CARD LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT: KARL “THE HURRICANE” De GROOT (41-17-1) of the STEEL PENN ALLIANCE versus JESSE “BUGMAN” WOLFE (25-13) of THE CHILDREN OF THE LAW OF ONE

The champion, De Groot, relied upon his skills and his tremendous amount of battle experience to overcome the upstart and aggressive Wolfe in this battle! This was a tremendously taxing and intense standup battle that could have gone either way. It remained on its feet until the final round where Wolfe tried to lock in a submission to put the match to an end. Try as he may, he wasn’t able to make the champion tap and thus, De Groot retained his Lightweight Championship by way of UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!

MAIN EVENT WELTERWEIGHT UNDERCARD EVENT: “RAMPAGE” ADOLF ELLENBERGER (16-4) of THE LEGION OF PAIN versus “KASCHEY” ARTEM BESSMERTIN (15-7) of the STEEL PENN ALLIANCE

The strikes in the standup between these two were fast and punishing to say the least! Bessmertin bled from a nasty slicing left elbow from Ellenberger in the 1st round, got knocked down in the 2nd round, and was leveled by a devastating right cross that sent him to his knees, where Ellenberger unloaded on him until the referee stepped in! Ellenberger earned the TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT VICTORY and both warriors earned the Fight of the Night honors!

UNDER CARD FEATHERWEIGHT EVENT: “THE CANDYMAN” WILLY WONKA (21-4) of the LEGION OF DOOM versus “THE LION” NICK SHIELDS (15-5) of GRABTHE.INFO

Wonka felt that this fight would be sweeter on the ground – see what I did there? – and took it there as quickly as he could in both rounds of this battle. Once down there, Wonka was able to outmaneuver Shields then he locked him into a Guillotine submission to earn the SUBMISSION VICTORY!

UNDER CARD SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT EVENT: “TURK” JOHNNY BRIT (28-17) versus LAN “AANALLEIN” MANDRAGORAN (19-9) of the LEGION OF DOOM

Mandragoran cut Brit with a vicious right counter cross that woke Brit up very quickly! Brit stepped up his aggression and was able to distract Mandragoran enough to unleash a jaw-snapping left uppercut that dropped Mandragoran like he was hit by a car! Brit dropped a sledgehammer of a right elbow on Mandragoran and the referee had seen enough! Brit won by TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT!

UNDER CARD LIGHTWEIGHT EVENT: “MAMBO” MR. BLACK (43-21-2) of CAVEMEN ASSASSINS CULT versus “THE RAGING JEW” LARRY DAVID (20-9) of TEAM OUTKAST

Black was clearly the aggressor and dominated the majority of this fight, but near the end of the 3rd round, many in attendance thought David made a big mistake by letting Black get back to his feet after David knocked him down with a massive right head kick! I’m sure David’s trainers will speak with him about finishing opponents off, especially near the end of a fight where he’s realistically losing. Black escapes with a UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!

UNDER CARD SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT EVENT: “THE DIVINE SINGER” FREDDIE MERCURY (20-8-2) versus "TARKKAILULUOAKAN PRIIMUS"ANSELMI HAMARA (25-13-1) of the FINNFIGHTERS

The man with the easy name against the fighter whose name is a question on the SAT, Mercury was cut by a face-contorting left jab from Hamara that seemed to motivate him! Mercury was very aggressive and had a high level of energy throughout the entire fight and easily outfought Hamara to earn the UNANIMOUS DECISION VICTORY!

UNDER CARD LIGHTWEIGHT EVENT: SAM “SAMMY” SHIELD (14-8) of ACME – ST. PETERSBURG versus “MR. MAIN EVENT” MAX POWER (37-24-2) of the LEGION OF DOOM

Shield was a step ahead of Power the entire 1st round and he positioned him for a picture-perfect left head kick that made Power’s eyes roll in the back of his head! Shield jumped on him and nailed him with punches until the referee stopped the brutality, giving Shield the TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT VICTORY!

UNDER CARD MIDDLEWEIGHT EVENT: JUAN “PUNCH” TAMAD (16-10-1) of FIGHTERS FIRST ALLIANCE versus RAVI “THE MIDLANDS MAULER” SINGH (13-9) of the EVOLUTION FIGHT CLAN

Tamad was clearly on top of his game for this fight and for good measure , he dropped Singh in the 3rd round with a savage left hook that made everyone ooh and ahh as Singh fell to the canvas! Tamad leapt on the downed man and pounded him out until the referee said it was enough! Tamad earned the TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT VICTORY!

All right my good people, it’s time for me to run so I can organize the content for my next review of a GAMMA event! As always I appreciate you taking the time to hang out with me and review the events that went down. I’m sure this weekend will be nothing short of explosive and exciting so be sure to catch the action. If you feel brave, place some bets and I wish you the best of luck! This is Furious Styles signing off, and I’ll see you…at the fights!
