NURMAGOMEDOV CLAIMS WOVA’S FIRST EVER TITLE

Fighter profile of Magomed Nurmagomedov by Jack Howard

LONDON – In the heart of Camden Conference Centre, under the screaming lights and a roaring crowd, history was written on May 3rd, 2025. The World Organization of Violent Athletes crowned its first ever champion, and that name—etched in blood and pressure—is Magomed “Bratha” Nurmagomedov.

Born in the austere mountains of Dagestan and forged by a father who knew no softness, Nurmagomedov’s path was never one of comfort. Raised in a village where “weakness was a crime,” he was dragged from bed before dawn to grind on frozen wrestling mats. That same fire burns in the 26-year-old’s eyes every time the cage door shuts. And at WOVA 3: Bloody Britannia, it was that same fire that cooked Evgeniy Yurchon alive.

The matchup was touted as a clash of styles—Yurchon’s all-around grit and Muay Thai striking against Nurmagomedov’s smothering ground game. But “Bratha” didn’t just win; he broke Yurchon. In the second round, after nearly ten minutes of relentless pressure, Nurmagomedov snapped a triangle choke onto his bloodied foe and didn’t let go until the tap echoed like a gunshot through the crowd. The arena exploded. The belt was his.

With a record of 5-1, the Sydney-based Russian now stands atop the 185-pound division, the undisputed king of WOVA. And he’s done it his way—zero knockouts, four submissions, and a soul-stealing pace that has left most opponents breathless and broken before the third bell. His only loss, a reckless KO via head kick in his MMA debut, seems like a distant memory—buried beneath an avalanche of grappling dominance.

Nurmagomedov has elite wrestling, a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and the kind of unshakable will that turns hype trains into cautionary tales.

His manager, Justin Poirier, described Magomed simply: “He’s not flashy. He’s not loud. He just drowns people.”

And now, with the WOVA gold around his waist and a target on his back, every middleweight in the game has one terrifying question to answer: Can you survive the storm from Dagestan?

If history tells us anything, the answer is no.
