Event Preview: NYCL 23 - Bateman vs Daverio

2021-09-11, New York, Empire Indoor Arena
Author:Kento King

We have an amazing event going on tonight, with that I would like to provide a killer preview!

Patrick Bateman v Mateo Daverio

Top P4P Fighter if not THE Best P4P Fighter in NYCL Patrick "Psycho" Bateman looks to make his first Featherweight Title Defence against another Top P4P and KO Artist Mateo Daverio. This fight will excite many fans because of the styles of these fighters. Bateman has a Ground and Pound style, which I like to call SMESH! This is a very unique and powerful style I've yet to see, not only can he "smesh" he has a sneak submission game as well, technically having both types of finishes since joining NYCL. Daverio is no pushover I have to say. Fighting in NYCL since his career debut, Daverio isn't just some no-name. Carrying a lethal Clinch KO style may sound simple but if you have to describe his game with one word it's KO. Of course with different styles, that means key parts in one another game that can be taken advantage of. It's well known that this is a Ground v Stand, this is a true test for both fighters in some way. While Bateman has fought every style going back to his Regional Days, will he be able to keep up with Daverio KO Power?. Daverio has had his fair share of styles as well, strikers or wrestlers you name it but I don't think he's seen this Ground game before, like Bateman. The reality of this fight is to see if Bateman has found his match and if Daverio can keep up with this new style he will face. There is no doubt that Bateman will be looking to MAUL Daverio with everything he has till the last bell. Daverio will have to keep this fight standing, sticking to his bread and butter is keeping the fight standing as long as possible and displaying the fearsome KO power we are well aware of. Bateman on the other hand has a different task at force, has he found his match? His run for the title has been nothing but dominant to the T. Many are ready to see if his dominant performance over previous title holder Jerry Goon was a taste of a long-dominant career.

Prediction: Bateman will show why he has the best style in the 145 division by MAULING Daverio till the last bell.

Dean Howard v Randy Orton

“For The Co-Main Event Of The Evening” Dean Howard looks to make his first Middleweight Title Defence against the #2 Ranked Middleweight in NYC… Randy Orton! Dean Howard looks to improve to 5-0 and become the Top P4P Fighter in NYCL, Randy Orton is on a mission to become champion and mark his spot in the P4P rankings in his NYCL Debut! This is a typical Striker v Grappler. Howard brings that mean and powerful Takedown/Sub combo. Howard is a mean machine when it comes to taking down his opponents with brute force; he has a TKO win via slam in his career! He may not show his power on the feet, but he does show it with his hips. Orton on the other hand displays beautiful striking skill AND power! In Orton's 3 Fight Career, not 1 fight has gone past not only the first round… the FIRST MINUTE! The description of this fight only fits with one word… POWERFUL. Howard has faced a good amount of strikers and grapplers in his career. You can call him the S Killer for the Striking Killer, in his last 2 fights including his bout against former Middleweight Champ Toko Kiriko he had to face adversity going against pure strikers. He followed his plan and was able to submit both in just the first round! Orton has something coming the way he's never seen before! Speaking of Orton he brings World Caliber Boxing skills. Having a total of 96 Seconds in his fighting career shows he has something really special. There isn't much to say about his opponents, there hasn't been enough time to see what they had in them. The verdict is we're gonna see 2 really good fighters do what they're best at. This fight will answer who owns the Middleweight division. Will it be kept standing? On the ground? Don't be surprised if this is the fight of the night!

Prediction: Orton hasn't had a true opponent, but nothing changes. His Boxing will be the difference in this fight. KO Orton

AIko “Frog Man” San v “Wonderboa” Wubbe De Klerk

Next up we have a Lightweight Matchup between Top Lightweight Aiko “Frog Man” San and “Wonderboa” Wubbe De Klerk. This is a typical Striker v Striker with both having wonderful Muay Thai. This is a fight you stand-up fans are gonna love, this will be a standup war with both being KO Artists! With both being wonderful in MT, I do see a difference. De Klerk has shown amazing Clincowork in his Career debut fight ending in a violent TKO. San on the other hand has not shown much Clinchwork, but more pure boxing. In his 2 career fights ending in 2 GRUESOME KOs, he's never clinched once! Not only that, San will have the superior Wrestling advantage over De Klerk. This fight will answer the question being… “will san finally show his clinch work?”

Prediction: San has shown he's worthy of a top opponent, clinch or not san will display amazing striking.

Jerry Goon v Armani “2 Guns” Jones

For the Second Fight of the main card, we have a Featherweight Matchup between former Featherweight Champion Jerry Goon and Armani “Two Guns” Jones. This is another Striker v Striker matchup with Goon having amazing Boxing Ability and Jones having Excellent Muay Thai. Having some of the best striking ability in NYCL Jerry Goon is looking to punch his ticket back into the Title Picture against a great prospect in Armani Jones. Jones is looking to show he may belong with the best of the best in the 145 Division defeating a former champ! With both having superior striking in their own right, I believe Goon has the upper hand, not by a large margin… a small upper hand. Goon has shown Championship level fighting in not only 2 weight divisions but has a crazy 100% Finish Rate within his 5 career wins. Jones looks to come in and be the spoiler of Goons 2x Title Dreams by displaying a high Clinch/Striking style. Jones landed an impressive 53% striking accuracy across the board. Will Goon bounce back from his first-ever loss in his only title defense? Or will Jones spoil it all and change from “prospect” to “contender”

Prediction: I feel it's too early of a jump in opponents for jones. With that being said, Goon will prove he is Champ Material and breeze past Jones with Precision Striking.

Aktiv Vajag v “The man without honor” Shinzade Murakami

For the First Match of the Main Card, we have a Banger Lightweight bout between 2 Striking Geniuses in Aktiv Vajag and Shinzade Murakami. This will be a Striker v Striker matchup, not just any though. It will be Precision v Power. Both Lightweights are looking to put their skills on the line to prove who is the superior Lightweight in NYCL. Vajag brings in a nice precision of Boxing Skill with a dash of Power Wrestling. Having only 2 wins out of 3 career fights, he's proven both his standup and wrestling having a dominant UD win displaying standup along with a KO Slam showing his Power Wrestling. Murakami is the definition of POWER. Having all 6 career fights not making it one minute! Murakami has a beautiful Muay Thai style, although not having to use his clinch work because of his fights not having enough time to display, he substitutes that with KO power. With both having amazing standup, Vajag has shown to have a slight advantage in the wrestling department over Murakami. Will we see a strict standup? Will we see Murakami compete in a fight that will last longer than a minute?

Prediction: with Murakami having the experience over Vajag, i don't see it playing a factor here. This will be a striking bout, but don't be surprised if we see Vajag coast to victory with his Strike/Wrestle style.
