HERO 26: Hong vs Larsson

Prelims

Featherweight Division:  Andrzej Rostowski vs Carlos Martinez

After taking a few strong leg kicks, Rostowski knew he needed to get the fight to the ground while he still had power in his legs. He did so and immediately started working his BJJ. Martinez defended nicely, but couldn't get back to his feet. In the end, he couldn't hold out forever. Result: Rostowski by 1st round submission (Kimura)

Featherweight Division: Francisco Edgardo vs Ancient King

Ancient King went for an early takedown and spent the entire five minutes wearing down Edgardo with ground and pound. With his opponent tiring from being on the bottom, he started the second with a takedown, but this time went for submissions. Edgardo couldn't hold him off. Result: King by 2nd round submission (Guillotine)

Middleweight Division: Dave Iverson vs Paul ed

Iverson pulled guard at the beginning of the first round. Paul ed maintained the top position for the round and landed some shots. Iverson went for submissions off his back. Paul ed clearly owned the second round and Iverson won the third, meaning the fight would be determined by how the judges viewed that first round. Many fans felt ed deserved the win, but two of the three judges saw it the other way. Result: Iverson by split decision

Lightweight Division: Mike Edwards vs Maarten De Kaizer

Edwards got an early takedown, but De Kaizer soon reversed position into full mount. He spent the round pounding on Edwards and avoiding submission attempts. In the second round, De Kaizer managed to get full mount again. This time, he put Edwards away. Result: De Kaizer by 2nd round TKO (Strikes)

Light Heavyweight Division: Dielange Lamzak and Gabriel Orsini

This fight saw much more dancing than fighting. Both men were extremely cautious, which resulted in a pretty uneventful fight. In each round, Lamzak managed to land a few more shots than Orsini and took it on all three scorecards. Result: Lamzak by unanimous decision

Main Card

Featherweight Division: Liam Nate vs Mike Stillao

Liam Nate used his takedowns to eke out victories in the first two rounds, then seemed content to allow Stillao to dominate the third. If this fight was judged as a whole, I have a feeling that Stillao would have won, but with the current rules, we got a different result.  Result: Nate by unanimous decision

Heavyweight Division: Boyko Borisov vs Roddy Piper

Win or lose, Borisov has never gotten out of the first round. That trend continued with his fourth consecutive first round knockout. Two successful combos were all that was needed to have Roddy Piper seeing stars. Result: Borisov by 1st round KO (Punches)

Heavyweight Division: Sega Genesis vs Jake James

Genesis was hoping to get back on the right track after losing his title last time out. However, James seemed ready for him. He defended the takedowns that Genesis brought, which allowed him to take advantage of the former champ's weakness: standup. Result: James by 1st round TKO (Strikes)

Co-Main Event

HERO Light Heavyweight Championship: Aleksi Vihtala vs Robert Kawasaki

The champ cut his challenger early in this one, then clinched up to wear him down. The grueling nature of grappling in the clinch, plus the energy he expended on failed takedown attempts, had Kawasaki gassed. Vihtala managed to finish him with some dirty boxing. Result: Vihtala by 1st round TKO (Strikes)

Main Event

HERO Heavyweight Championship: Alan Fei Hong vs Tobias Larsson

They say that defending the belt is harder than winning it. Hong wanted to prove that wrong, but it was Larsson who got off on the right foot. He got a takedown that put him in top position. Hong managed to reverse it. Larsson showed great patience waiting for his chance to switch back on top. Once he got there, he unleased devastating ground and pound and knocked the champ out cold.  Result: Larsson by 1st round KO (Strikes)

Post Fight Press Conference

AJ Nex congratulated Vihtala on keeping his belt and Larsson for winning his. It was a great night for HERO fighters and the event was the highest rated in org history.

The night's bonuses were announced at the end of the press conference:

KO of the Night: Boyko Borisov

Sub of the Night: Ancient King

Fight of the Night: Liam Nate vs Mike Stillao

Next up in HERO, we are off to Tokyo for the first ever international event in HERO history. Eddie Torrez will defend the Middleweight Title against Tokyo local Mark Murphy and Hall of Famer Jarkko Vaakku will square off in a superfight against Eternal Rivals champ Ricardo Martinez.
