Undercard

Rushe vs Kingsley – Starting off in the 170 lb division, we have Antoine Rushe vs John Kingsley. At least I think it’s Kingsley. Hard to see who’s under all those tattoos. Rushe is well rested and ready to improve off his disappointing majority draw over GDL-castoff Jon Masvidal. Style counts in this sport and Rushe will be the first to tell you that his elbows just weren’t working that night. The time off has resurrected him. From the mean streets of Pirates Well, Kingsley accepted a last-minute offer to fight Sky Genie in his last fight and made quick work of him. Can Rushe overcome Kingsley’s wrestling skills? Or will Kingsley be elbowed into unconsciousness?

Darkholme vs Greenwald – Sticking with the 170 division, Van Darkholme looks to get back to winning when he meets Glenn Greenwald in the cage. Darkholme is 1-2 to start his GDL career and rumors out of GachiClub gym say he’s been training day and night, continuing to work on his leg kicks which are turning into his bread and butter. He’s going to have to try and stay on his feet against the Real Deal, whose wrestling and BJJ skills have improved 200% since we last saw him at GDL 53. Will Greenwald remain undefeated, or will Darkholme be able to stand and survive?

Boy vs Martinez – Baby Boy is a first-round wonder. Every fight, win or lose, has finished in under 3 minutes, a testament to his aggressiveness. Unfortunately, he’s only won a third of those fights and his morale couldn’t be lower heading into his fight with El Chapo Martinez. He desperately needs to use his BJJ skills and stay away from El Chapo’s heavy hands. Martinez ran into a head kick in his last fight, but he’s been on a great roll lately. Will Baby avoid the big punch? Or can he take it to the mat and make Martinez work?

Tromble vs Zillionaire – A combined 8-2 record in the 265 + division is up next. Tromble is a different type of super heavyweight, working his opponent around the ring, looking to use his cardio advantage to tire them out. It’s been a successful plan so far, and he’ll look give his opponent a second straight loss. Zaga Zillionaire is also 4-1, but his chin was severely tested in 44 second knockout loss to Max Drax at GDL 54. Zaga’s team said it was a blip on the radar, that his boxing skills will carry the day against Tromble. Will he be able to continue landing a high percentage of punches? Or will Tromble be nimble enough to avoid and counter?

McFarland vs Roughneck – Skippy McFarland is sitting in the basement of the 185 lb division and it’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll. He’s capable, he has the boxing acumen to stand and bang, but he needs to work on his accuracy. His opponent is Jared Roughneck, a warhead when things are rolling well, a firecracker when they’re not. Arguably a bigger talent, he’s struggled with nailing his takedowns, and he’ll need that to improve to get the expected win against McFarland.

Wiener vs Kock – The first of three rematches. Big Wiener lost to his opponent at GDL 42, a disappointing loss which briefly took him out of title contention. A second loss a month later, to Pure Striker, didn’t help his odds, but he bounced back with some vicious kicks in a unanimous win over Frank White. After beating Wiener, Batang Kock won a shot at the 145 pound title at GDL 51 and lost a hard-fought match to Cleon Wright. He followed that up with a win over Jim O’Neill  and is looking to recapture a title shot using his fantastic all-around skills. He also wants revenge on the jerk who spray-painted the GDL 61 poster Cock instead of Kock. *GDL note: I’d change it, but I find my immature brain slip too funny to bother.*

Dentler vs Andersson – They fought at GDL 50. Jameson Dentler grazed Superman Andersson with a hook, cutting him and forcing him on to the defensive. The cut worsened and Dentler eventually dropped him with a nasty uppercut. It’s a recipe he wants to use again if he hopes to keep climbing the 205 pound division. It’s no secret that Frank Andersson has a sensational ground game. If he gets you on the ground, you’re toast. It’s also no secret that Andersson has a cut issue. Three fights in a row he’s been cut, two of those resulted in losses. It’s not a good position to be in; will it cause him to be less aggressive? Can he get through Dentler’s defense and take it to the ground?

Main Event

Muhapuro vs Battlehammer – The last two weeks must seem like an eternity to Paul Muhapuro. He lost a close decision to Papa Legba to lose his middleweight championship belt, a belt he’s held since May. His rematch against Legba was declined (with authority) by the new champ who said “zzzzzz”. He then threw a tantrum and demanded a match, any match, “even against Battlehammer” so he could punch out some of his frustrations. The Dwarven King may wish he was back in the Forgotten Realms before this one is done, but we’ve learned not to count anything or anyone out in this game. He’s more rested, more focused, and the boys at The Redemption Club have been helping him train his little heart out. If he can keep Muhapuro at arm’s length, increase his accuracy, there’s no doubt he can keep it close. The longer it goes, the more frustrated Muhapuro will become.

155 Title

Donovan vs Mwekassa – The question I get asked most these days is, why is Mwekassa getting a title shot? He’s .500 overall and 1-2 in GDL. He doesn’t deserve a shot. My answer? The Gladiator travelled to London on September 10 and outpointed the champ in a non-title match, landing 55% of his punches along the way. It was an incredible upset, title or not, and it pissed Cayden Donovan off so much that he asked for a rematch that very night. Three weeks later and we’re back at the Palmtree for an intense rematch. Critics say Mwekassa has no chance in hell or repeating the win, but insiders disagree. He found something in Donovan’s infallible gameplan that he could expose and if he’s kept up his studies, anything can happen. Donovan is no longer the cream of the 155 pound division, but he still has the belt around his waist and until you take it from him, he’s the fighter everyone in the division is looking up at.
