From Boss to Bum.

Fighter profile of by Big Boss

Matt Sabre's career started off with 5 straight wins before taking an unsuspected break at the end of 2009. Even with taking a victory in the now defunct Syn orgnization Sabre fell off the MMA radar and was back in his hometown working for a local paper company.

It wasn't until mid 2010 that Sabre caught the eye of Big Boss while keeping fit in a local gym. Big Boss instantly recognized Sabre's all-around talent and signed him that very day. Sabre had gone from paper factory warehouse worker to a signed MMA fighter. In a flash, Sabre had uprooted his home in Scranton, PA and relocated to Tokyo where he would train with some of the finest MMA fighters under Big Boss' management.

NEFC's Openweight Tournament was Sabre's first big task under Big Boss' management. He was unsuccessful on capturing the tournament title falling to Dick Offenhard in a hard fought 5 round decision. However, Sabre was able to dispatch talented fighters such as Mike Norris, Drew Carpenter, and Alistair Portiikongi to make it to the finals.

Sabre performed so well in the tournament that he was chosen as the next contender to NEFC's Middleweight Title. Just fresh off his first loss Sabre came into camp focused and determined to dethrone the champion Rich Aces High. In typical fashion Matt Sabre utilized stinging leg kicks and strong clinch game to outclass his opponent in a 5 round decision. NEFC was later absorbed by DFC and once again Sabre was first in line for the title shot.

He defeated DFC's MW Champion, Chris Paige, in another high volume decision that had his opponent battered and bruised. Sabre received a stiffer test in his first title defense against Paul Bruens and barely etched a decision on the judges scorecards. Sabre went on to capture his third MW championship defeated Ascensions MW Champion Pelayo Palhares.

Sabre would continue his win one lose one pattern before amassing a career record of 14-4. Decision losses to Johnny Chan, Wade Wilson, and Spotted Cow saw Sabre outworked at his own game. Sabre was written off as a fighter who played it safe and as someone who wouldn't always live up to their talents.

Looking for quick fights and big cash Matt Sabre entered Vicious EPL Season 2 which turned out to be the best decision of his career. Not only did Sabre rattle off 16 straight victories he did them in brutal fashion finishing off 12 of his opponents. However with the highs come the lows.

A late night of partying celebrating his entrance into the finals of the EPL turned an early flight into Helsinki into a red eye out of Tokyo. Sabre was nothing like himself in his first meeting with Tyle Dignam and was stopped in brutal fashion in under 3 minutes. Sabre's chance for riches and fame was snatched in an instant.

However, Sabre was given an immediate chance for redemption when Dean Sutherland hosted the fight in the ASC: The World Tour card. With proper rest and lengthy game planning it was still not enough for Sabre who fell victim to Tyler Dignam a second time by TKO (Cuts). He was given his chance and he blew it. Sabre went from the Boss to the Bum.

Sabre would travel the globe in search of superfights. Challenging the toughest fighters of the respective organizations. After two straight losses to Tyler Dignam, Sabre fell to Daniel Ruanti, Ryo Narushima, Duke Torres, and Ender Wiggin. Some wondered if Sabre still had it in him. None of the fights went his way and he personified The Bum to a tee. Sabre's traveling brought him back to Ascension taking on a relatively unknown journeyman, Az Anubis.

It wasn't the prettiest fight for Matt Sabre but it may have been his bloodiest. On paper, Az Anubis was outmatched in every facet of the game, yet he may have been Sabre's toughest opponent to date. Sabre went for a go for broke strategy that consisted mainly of leg kicks and stinging overhands. This strategy left him open to counters, but Sabre continued to move foreward and land to both the body and head of Az Anubis. By the end of the 2nd Sabre's face was a bloody mess and it seemed like the ringside doctor was going to stop the bout. The pair continued to battle on till the final bell and in the end saw Sabre take a hard earned Split decision victory. "It wasn't pretty and now I'm ugly", Sabre stated at his post fight interview referring to the 12 stitches required to heal the wounds on his face.

His ugly victory ended his 6 fight losing streak and finally earned his 30th career victory. So where does The Bum go from here? Will he call it quits and end his career on a win? Some speculate another EPL run and other rumors state to signing a long term contract at middleweight. Stay tuned next time where Matt Sabre will meet with reporters for an interview discussing his career and his future in Tycoon.
