For some fighters the ability to perform at the highest caliber in front of the largest crowds can only be described as a Pipe-dream. For the fighters signed to Duel Fighting League, this pressure for top performance is just another day in the office. Now I can sit here and brag about how great DFL is and how many top tier fighters on the hottest streaks shattered in the debut with DFL but I am going to spare you the obvious.
I have been a fan of DFL and have followed their events for sometime now. This is the first time that this journalist felt obligated to let the people know about this particular event; DUEL#16 Silver vs Balkon (870940). Set in the greatest city in the world, guess its easy to tell that I am a New York native, filling the 5,250 seats of the Liberty Dome; this event is going to be one for the books.
Headlining this event are the 155LB monsters Sigurd Ragnarsson and Eli Armis. Entering with a record of 16-5-1, Sigurd Ragnarsson feels confident that his Jujitsu is the key to defeating his opponent which has won him four out of his last five bouts. Don't let the ratio fool you though, folks. This man has very dangerous Muay Thai allowing him to maintian maximum infliction of damage in all areas of the fight. With a deadly clinch game and 14 out of his 16 wins coming by way of submission its no wonder why he is the favored fighter on October 16.
Before we can raise a hand lets look across the canvas, what you would find is a man so experianced in the world of Mixed Martial Arts that any fighter would reconsider signing for a bout against him. Eli "Apprime" Armis holds an outstanding record of 32-17-2, and like his opponent, most of his victories by way of submission. This making him a dangerous underdog for the great Sigurd. This submission expert matches well with the fan favorite and has the experience to back him, my eyes will personally be waiting for this bout.
Now lets get to the man that has caught the attention of many fans, fighters and promoters alike; Billy "The Kid" Silver. Coming to DFL with a questionable five losses and only two wins, he was anything but a promising prospect. Now after a three fight win streak, Billy "The Kid" Silver is set to defend his 185lb for an astonishing third time. Thats right fight fans; this doubted fighter has found his rythem and is defending his Middleweight Belt for the third consecutive time on October 16th. Maybe its something he drank, maybe its a new training environment, Hell, maybe its the shoes; whatever it is its working.
Billy "The Kid" Silver will have his hands full with intense striker Marian Balkon. With an unshakeable record of 11-5-0, this New York fighter will be the ultimate test for Silver. Though he relies primarily on his accurately powerful strikes, he may have to discover his Submission game against Silver; whom has been to the bottom and fought his way to the top.
Whats next for Silver if he defeats this dangerously experianced opponent? The answer to that can possibly be answer by the fight prior to his own. Lets take a quick look at Akira Hendrix versus Peter Parker, shall we?
Peter Parker comes to the 185LB division with gold in sight. The DFL Middle Weight title slipped away once before when he lost to Champion Sam Ponjev, who later suffered an astonishing 9 second TKO loss to current Champion Billy Silver, by second round submission. This was a loss that resignates with a fighter, sometimes making it nearly impossible to bounce back. But for Peter Parker, this was not the case as he defeated his next opponent Denver Washington by Unanimous Decision. Now he is ready for his second shot at the top slot, but in his way stands the toughest challenge of his career.
Enter Akira Hendrix, the rising star of DFL's Middle Weight Ranks. With a Professional MMA record of 13-4-0 and a Professional KT record of 2-2-0, this fighter is anything other then an easy victory for any opponent across the cage. HIs unparrallel striking ability has granted him the gift to push the pace in all forms. Out of the 13 wins he has earned in the MMA world, 12 of them were by way of KO/TKO. Is Hendrix the answer to Silvers' reign over the Middle Weight Division? October 16th is the answer to all of these questions and more.
