Interview of MMA Fighter Storman Norman

Editorial by J J Tycooner

Interview of MMA Fighter  Storman Norman

This interview was done after Norman's first MMA fight.

JJ: How long have you been doing Mixed Martial Arts  what belts do you have if any?

SN:I've been doing martial arts for about 1.5 yrs now. I started off just training BJJ, which I hold a blue belt in, and the last 5 months or so I've been kickboxing as well.

JJ:What does your wife think about you being a MMA fighter ?

SN: My wife is very supportive, but at the same time it really stresses her out. She really doesn't even like watching me grapple much less get punched in the face in MMA but she knows it's something I've always wanted to do so she's behind me 100 %

JJ: You had a hard Weight cut  what will you do different next time ?

SN: Oh my God was It ever a hard weight cut, I cut 23 lbs in 5 days which probably wasn't the best move but it paid off. Next fight I will be lighter before the cut. I had to spend a lot if time in the sauna, and by the time I weighed in I looked like Connor McGregor cutting to 145 lol

JJ: You just had your first MMA fight could you tell me what you where thinking when you heard that yes you have a fight on this date  ?

SN: When I first found out I was fighting Darnell (my opponent) I was excited someone accepted, a few people turned down a fight because I was a blue belt and they didn't feel they could beat me I guess. So I immediately had some respect for Darnell and knew then that he was gonna be tough.

JJ: When you are walking out for your first fight what is going threw your head?

SN: During the walkout a lot of things were going threw my head, but I was trying to stay focused. But I was mainly thinking, " here we go, this is what all this training has been for, now get in there and put it to good use"

JJ: Every fighter gets nervous before the fight starts  but once it did get going did the nerves go away?

SN: The nerves definitely didn't go away when the fight started but I knew I had to get out my head and just do what I felt I needed to do to win.

JJ: You show some real good grappling skills did you think you would finish this fight on the ground and where you surprised at all that your opponent able to get the fight back standing?

SN: The game plan coming was to stand long enough to set up a takedown and work some GNP to open up a sub opportunity but Darnell was a good grappler himself and had apparently been drilling some escapes.

It did surprise me a lil that he was able to get up so easy. He was pretty strong grappling, I couldn't muscle him as much as I thought I could on the ground. Which I found out when I tried to roll him over and ended up mounted for a few seconds.

JJ: When the fight was over what was going threw your head ?

SN: I was SO pumped when he went down! I knew I hit hard but I never expected to 'Mark Hunt' him since he was more of a stand up fighter. Next to having my son's it was the proudest moment of my life.

Most of family was there, a lot of friends and training partners, and my Sensei was in my corner with one of his long time friends so there was a lot of people I didn't want to let down.

It really was the perfect debut and I'm thankful to everyone who believed in me.

JJ: one fight down one win by Ko  what is next for you sir ?

SN: As of now it's looking like I could be fighting Oct. 22 for Spartyka Fight League. Im waiting to hear if the opponent accepted. He is a wrestler who's making his debut so I feel I should match up well against him.

JJ: Is there anything you want to add?

SN:  One of the best wrestlers in the state trains with us and I can take him down (sometimes) and I give him a lot of trouble when he's trying to taking me down. This will in front of 5000 people or so, so that should be exciting and nerve racking at the same time.

JJ: Thank you very much sir good luck with your next fight.

SN: Thanks for taking the time to do this interview and thanks to everyone for the support
