Nate 'Cholo Gangsta' Gonzalez "Closed Mouth Don't Get Fed"

Fighter profile of Nate Gonzalez by Eddie Bravo

Hello everyone, Willy Jackson, here reporting live from the world famous Island with one of the Island's most outspoken and polarizing fighters, Nate Gonzalez.

So Nate, you are about to compete in your sixth fight on The Island against a fellow highly skilled opponent in Skip Bayless, I have to ask, are you taking him as seriously as your previous opponents or have you gained a sense of invincibility as you are currently undefeated with all wins coming within the first round?

Gonzalez: "Look homie, I'm sure Skip is a tough motherfucker, but let's be honest, this guy ain't on my level. What's he got like 2 fights or some shit? The way I see it, I can eat any motherfucker standing across from me, no matter how much "skill" they got, I'll find a way to win.

I always do. But I also know this is a fight and any one can lose at any moment. I know I'm not invincible but I also know I'm the baddest motherfucker in this bitch and that's wassup. I don't know if I answered your question but fuck it."

Willy: Hehe, well I'll take it. You mentioned the quality of your opponent, is that something your concerned or frustrated by? You know, fighters that aren't exactly on your level as far as experience is concerned?

Gonzalez: "Well you said it. They pretty much aren't on my level when it comes to experience or skill. I mean the best fighters I've fought skill wise have been like, Greg McConor and Kai Tadeo, but since this is an island full of noobs and rookies, I haven't been able to test myself against the best. When I see all these other scrubs getting title shots from right underneath me I'm just all like wtf.

I'm the one racking up wins consistently but I keep getting passed up. Like the fuck I gotta do to get a title shot, you know? Like am I forgetting something or some shit? I don't know all I can say is don't blame me, blame the promoters."

Willy: In fact, I'm glad you brought up promotions. It's been well documented that there was a massive scandal involving The Island's only two MMA promotions. Can you please elaborate on what exactly happened with all of that and how it all affected you. I'd like to get your perspective as you were directly in the middle of it all and signed with both promotions at one point in time.

Gonzalez: "Yeah that was some bullshit, that's all I really got to say about that."

Willy: What do you mean? Was it something that you were effected by personally?   Gonzalez: "Obviously I was affected by it, I mean my fight got scrapped and I had to take a fight in QFC, but nah, I didn't take anything personal or nothing. It was just a mess, I don't really give a fuck cause I still kept on truckin'. If it was personal for anyone, it was probably between J.J. and Reggie, you know. Mamado, anyone that was running the promotions. It was something about someone cheating on one of the superfights or some shit I really don't pay attention to all that BS I just do my job.

My jobs to fight. That's it, not play House of Cards or whatever. Just give me an opponent and I'm good. But even though the mix up was annoying it all worked out good as hell for me.

Island FC resigned me for a sexy signing bonus, then they dipped again, then Highland Island turned around and signed me for an even sexier contract so it all worked out.

I'm still cool as hell with Double J and Mamado and plus it all got me paid as FUCK so it's all good in the hood, homie."

Willy: So after its all said and done, no hard feelings with anyone right?

Gonzalez: "Yeah man, I'm chillin."

Willy: Well like I noted earlier, you have gotten quite a bit of attention from the other fighters as you don't shy away from the trash talk aspect of the fight game. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen so many fighters come at one fighter except maybe your older brother Nick, and perhaps a lot of that was sort of instigated by you, would you say that's fair?

Gonzalez: "Yeah I can't really disagree with that shit huh?"

Willy: Hehe, well I for one find it amazing, I mean you and your brother engage on Buzz so much, that #GonzalezBrothers is now a trending topic on Buzz. That's an accomplishment within itself, wouldn't you say?

Gonzalez: "I guess. That's really not the goal, I guess we just talk a lot of shit and really like hashtags. I mean, I'm only 19, so I'm always on social media, you know? I got that shit on lock so when ever one of these squares come at me on Buzz, you def gonna lose.

And as for the instigating, my first big win, was cause of me calling out Greg McConor on Buzz. So sometimes you gotta speak your mind. If people wanna label it as instigating, then fuck it that's what I am. But a closed mouth don't get fed. So to any young fighters coming up, don't be afraid to speak your mind."

Willy: So after your fight with Bayless, what do you want next? I saw you uncharacteristically called out both the champion and the challenger for a fight before you even fought Bayless. Haha that's a little, pardon my language, ballsy even for a Gonzalez Brother.

Gonzalez: "Cmon homie you know you ain't gotta pardon shit around me."

Willy: Haha I know that now

Gonzalez: "Yeah well anyways, I called those lil' bitches out, cause number one, like I said I can put it together and beat anyone on the planet, but those pussies got offered to fight each other like a week ago, and they (are) too scared to even respond to the fight offer.

To me it's simple. Either say yes I want the fight or no I don't want the fight. Why you gotta be a dick and act like you ain't even hear shit? Yes or no. If y'all too pussy to fight each other pull one of em out and I'll jump in and do the dirty work. Lobov or Fleetcher I don't really give a fuck. I just want a high profile fight already. Tired of tossing these scrubs like salad."

Willy: Well we only have time for one more question and thank you so much for taking the time out of the final preparations to chat with us, but I have to address the elephant in the room. Your older brother, Nick Gonzalez, suffered his first ever loss in his LumpineeKT title fight against current champion, Cory MacDonald. Was it something that you took and learned from, was it something you used as motivation or was it just a massive blow to the Gonzalez Brothers ego?

Gonzalez: "Well first of all, me and my brother may be mad shit talkers, but there is no "ego". We were both born and raised in Compton and that's about as humble as beginnings get. On the other hand, no it didn't feel good seeing my big bro go down like that . But I really did learn from his mistakes and so did he. We both know what he did wrong and we both now know what it's gonna take to get that strap wrapped around our waist. It ain't gonna be easy, but we'll both get that shit and when we do... Let's just say watch the fuck out homie"

Willy: Well I think that's a great note to end on. Again Nate, thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us and good luck in your Lightweight bout against Skip Bayless. That's it for us today ladies and gents. You can catch Nate Gonzalez in action at Highland Island Wed Fight XI, this Wednesday, May 25th. Thank you guys again for reading guys, this has been Willy Jackson, signing off.
