O27: Fry vs Van Der Moot! PREVIEW

Woo hoo, what a ride indeed! For the first time in forever it appears that we have all 20 managers and their fighters primed and ready to go to town at the ultimate OverComing event, the 27th and final, Fry vs. Van Der Moot. A fitting way to end the organisation as plenty of OC's regular and most beloved fighters take to the cage and two of the open weight divisions greatest fighters throw down in a bid to get in the last word before moving onto new employment. It also wouldn't be a fitting farewell to OC if Schindler wasn't involved and back to his peak form of running his mouth with reckless abandon against an undefeated and formidable opponent. For now it is hello and farewell from The Beer Garden and we're fully expecting a packed house of over 5000 fans to bid farewell to one of Amsterdam's favourite organisations which achieved great things in a very short space of time.

"Hetman" Jarema Czartoryski vs. "The Awesome One" Heraldo Magnifico
Lightweight

Two great open lightweight fighters of OC, "Hetman" Czar...Czar... sod it. "Hetman" and "The Awesome One" Magnifico, look to go out with a bang before moving onto new arenas which could be anywhere from bantam to lightweight given that both men are very small for their division but have big hearts and hits. "Hetman" and his impressive molester moustache will be pitting his big boxing up against Magnifico's equally impressive boxing and Thai advantage in a fight which I expect to be a trading of blows until one man goes down. With Magnifico being 15cm taller he should have the striking advantage and his self confidence hasn't taken much of a knock despite losing his last 2 fights. This is a tough fight to call as Magnifico has a proven record against a wide range of opponents whereas "Hetman" has shown he turns out lights fast, so either way I am not expecting this fight to last long but I think this is a great chance for "The Awesome One" to regain some pride and finish his OC career on a high as well as to be remembered as the great fighter he is.

"The Reem" Alistair Ubereem vs. Samsung Wave
Middleweight

Despite only being with OC for 2 fights, "The Reem" Ubereem has impressed with wins in both appearances and tonight he has his chance to test his mettle against the top quality Wave who's elite boxing has seen him win 4 of his 5 fights with the org. Standing and banging with Wave is a risky business but with "The Reem" boasting top notch Thai boxing as well as high class Western styles he is definitely qualified to trade a few for the enjoyment of the fans. Very little separates the two men in terms of size and it is just a matter of who's chin gives way first as far as I am concerned. I really do not know who to pick here but if Ubereem plays this one smart I think the advantage of his kicking game should allow him to keep some distance and chip away at Wave over time, allowing him to score the knock out win.

Michal "Junior" Bicki vs. Kurt Schindler
Lightweight

About bloody time too! This is a lightweight fight that has been brewing for a long time as the unassuming Bicki has been quietly achieving week after week thanks to some flashy boxing skills and with Schindler always keen to take on the best the division has to offer, for better or worse, it was only a matter of time before these two met up in a battle of words and flying fists. Both of these men have some of the same scalps hanging from their belts so there's not much to compare there but the obvious difference here is "Junior" Bicki's desire to stand and box whereas Schindler will be keen to, and has the ability to, get this fight down where he can ground and pound or work on a submission. As is often the case, this fight is going to come down to whoever wants it the most and goes the hardest. I think the stylistic matchup favours Schindler but his tendency to go to decision or to the 3rd round before finishing is a concern as Bicki will certainly not need that long to land a hurting hit if he gets the opportunity to stand for long. Despite that I am going with a Schindler KO win to end Bicki's perfect run.

Hannibal "The Beast" Butrovic vs. Vash The Stampede
Lightweight. Co-Main Event!

Making his first and last appearance with OC is "The Beast" Butrovic, an excellent ground fighter who is taking on an equivalently quality roller in the shape of Stampede but who also has the boxing to be highly comfortable if this fight keeps standing. Undefeated after 5 fights thanks to some big KOs, "The Beast" plays for a different style than Stampede who has 7 of his 8 wins via submission and it will be interesting to see which can make things go his way if this fight actually gets to the floor. At the same size, and equally energised coming into this bout it will be a lot of fun to see if Butrovic is able to repeat the performance of his last fight, also against Stampede but with a different org, which he managed to win via decision. In the time between, Stampede has fought 3 times whereas Butrovic has been training like the beast he is named after and I think this time out will work in his favour and I expect him to take a knock out win tonight.

Jack Fry vs. "The Executioner" Maarten Van Der Moot
Lightweight. Main Event TITLE FIGHT!

Keeping the best until last is the title fight between Fry and "The Executioner" Van Der Moot. Fry impressed the MMA world with his majority decision win over Magnifico, a fight which I hope to see rematched some time, somewhere. "The Executioner" for his part is also undefeated and to take the psychological advantage he was able to knock out Magnifico in his last fight within the 1st round. Heaps of anticipation for this one as Van Der Moot's Western boxing takes on Fry's Thai style and Van Der Moot's 5cm extra height takes on Fry's extra 12lbs. Sensationally matched up, two great undefeated warriors of OverComing put it all on the line in a fight one at least is going to look back on in disappointment. I hate to be a naysayer, especially for a champ, but looking at the fight records of these two men it is very clear that "The Executioner" ends fights and he ends fights fast and I think this is going to be the case again tonight when he takes on Fry. I am tipping Van Der Moot to be the next, and last, open lightweight champion of OC.

There you have it boys and girls. The dream is over. OverComing's last event is there on the table for your viewing pleasure. I am K-Rad and on behalf of @JakubWest and the OC team, it's been a blast to walk this path with you all. See you at the fights and until then, take care and thank your mother for the rabbits.
