GKNY #60 FIGHT PREVIEW

Event Date: 26.03.2016
Location: Amsterdam
Arena: Hayashi’s Lounge

Fight fans!

Are you ready!?

It is FINALLY time to review GKNY #60, I for one have been waiting a little while for this one, with not one, but two blockbuster championship fights headlining the card!  That’s right!  Both the Light Heavyweight belt and the Middleweight strap will be on line, all on the one card!

Back in Amsterdam, so start drinking water in preparation of the after-parties now, the number 60 event looks to have the best main card of the year so far, and a couple of these fights could easily take out fight of the year.

I already have my ringside pass for the event, I suggest you buy yours now as this one could sell out fast.

UNDERCARD

#1 - Baldur Draupnir (267697) vs Pyrrhus "Of " Epirus (269417) - 185lbs

Prediction:  Two low ranked middle weighters, both with average records. Epirus is on a three fight losing streak, expect that to continue here with Baldur picking up the TKO win.

#2 - "Dangerous" Dante Flux (261465) vs Mr Complete (258223) - 185lbs

Prediction:  I am picking Dangerous Flux to take this by fast KO, purely because of how awesome that name is.  He is also the better fighter with his opponent who amassed ten losses and only six wins.

#3 - Hassan Iqbal (269130) vs Anders "Anaconda" Andersson (269147) - 170lbs

Prediction:  Andersson is very weak on his back, but has dynamite in his fists.  Iqbal on the other hand is strong on his back, but weak when bobbing and weaving.  Anders will look to take this down early to avoid being KO’d, he will get the tap by the second round.

#4 - Maxim Vladyslav Volkov (269510) vs Joe Schilling (276298) - 185lbs

Prediction:  Plain and simple, Volkov is going lights out.  I visited his camp this week, and I can easily say he is not ready for the fight.  He needs to turn a lot around in order to even be competitive – and I don’t think he can.  Joe Schilling will end this in brutal style, knockout early round one.

#5 - Landon Pike (263182) vs Johan "Danken" Dahlberg (267749) - 205lbs

Prediction:  Headlining the prelims is a half decent fight.  Both about even in height and weight, fairly even in skill and both can finish fights.  Pike is 4-1 while Dahlberg is 4-3, both men are coming off a loss.  This should be a hard fought contest, but Pike will get the nod via TKO.

MAINCARD

The main card is brought to you by Underworld Clothing, get ready, two title fights coming up soon!

#1 - Manus Dinapoli (260088) vs Mark Hales (264030) - 185lbs

Dinapoli is an advanced ground fighter from Afghanistan, bringing a record of 4 wins and 2 losses.  With a walking weight of 200 pounds he has a decent weight cut ahead, but he has made this cut 6 times before now, so there is no reason to think this will play a big part in the fight.  Having lost the last two fights in a row, he is here with his team ready to make a statement and change his momentum.

Mark is a proud BJJ brown belt from Louisiana, one year younger than his opponent though his record doesn’t show it with a staggering eight wins, and only three losses.  Every single one of those wins were by submission, this guy knows how to grapple.  Unlike his opponent, Hales is on a two fight streak, and is definitely the favourite going into this bout.

Prediction:  Hales will get this to the ground, you can bet on that happening.  Once he does – its fight over, he has shown time and time again how broad his submissions skills are by making all those fighters tap.  On top of that his momentum from 2 wins straight will be too much, Hales by round 1 submission.

#2 - Micah Ilyak (267414) vs Loke "The Deceiver" Sabel (259690) - 205lbs

Next up is a Muay Thai fighter from Dallas, Micah Ilyak is 22 and carry’s a resume of 3 wins and 1 loss.  Possibly his Achilles heel, his only loss was by submission, we’re positive his opponents camp knows this, and will test it come fight time.  On the plus side all three of his wins were by impressive strikes finish, which could certainly play a role here.

Sabel, who is a large wrestler from Sweden, is undefeated with 6 wins.  And to add to the great record, he has wins from every area, MMA at its finest.  Clearly a versatile fighter, and a threat from everywhere.  He is slightly taller and has a smaller weight cut.  Loke has the advantage in a dominating way on the ground, look for him to take this down early.

Prediction:  This is an easy striker vs grappler, Sabel is talented in all areas and I think he’ll take it down to the ground.  He has an advantage on the ground, so expect him to try to keep it there, and end it there.  Loke Sabel by submission, round 2.

#3 - Tre Cruz (271349) vs Julio "Nodrebar" Shogun (266665) - 265lbs+

Are we ready for USA vs BRAZIL?

First up, the home grown American Tre Cruz is 22 years of age and has accumulated a record of 7-3-0.  He is coming off an impressive KO punch knockout at GKNY #54 and is high on confidence.  We heard from his team that he’d been training hard on ground defence, given that all three of his losses are from submission.

His opponent hails from Brazil, is 26 years old and is standing behind 8 wins and 4 losses.  He too is high on confidence and is on a two fight run, noting that his last win was at GKNY #54 where he won in the first round – by submission.  He has knocked out fighters before as well, so he’s a problem everywhere.

Prediction:  Another stand up vs submission.  I think the jujitsu fighters will have a good night and we’ll see some greatly executed submissions.  And this fight could be one.  Tre Cruz has lost 3 fights by submission, and that statistic is too bold to ignore.  Shogun by submission, second round.

Co MAINEVENT - Kaino "The Lion" Heikkinen (258743) vs Donald "Meanest Man In America" Gaskins (259115) – MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

It’s time for two championship contests in a row, the co-main event is up now.

The challenger, Donald Gaskins, who is apparently the meanest man in America, is 24 and has 8 wins and 3 losses.  Very talented on the floor, with seven of his wins by submission.  Expect him to take this down to the ground to finish the fight, but he is more than competent with his fists.

The reigning champion, Kaino "The Lion" Heikkinen, is a dangerous striker from Finland, and has a record of 12-2.  He is on a two fight streak and this is the title holder’s second defence thus far.  He will have the edge in stand up for this contest, but he’ll want to keep it standing as if it goes down he will be out skilled by a great advantage and is at risk of being dominated.

The winner of this match will be crowned the middleweight champion.

Prediction:  I have been tipping the wrestlers and grapplers on this card, and I am not going to stop now.  Gaskins is very strong on the ground, and he will certainly take it there at some point.  Though he has proven before he can stand and trade and come out on top, so he shouldn’t be taken lightly.  Gaskins by submission, round 1, #andnew.

MAINEVENT - Mick "Crocodile" Dundee (261437) vs Hughtavious Mingo (257586) – LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Ladies and gents, take your seats, it is time for the main event of the evening!

The following contest is five, five minute rounds in the GAMMA Kids light heavyweight division, and is for the championship belt!

First!  Fighting out of Amsterdam, he has a professional record of 18 wins and 9 losses.  He stands, 193cm tall and is looking for a challenge.  He is a world calibre boxer and deadly submission artist, Hughtavious Mingo!

And the champion!  The Australian, fighting out of New York City, he holds 9 wins and only 2 losses.  He stands 186cm tall, and is the number one contender for the championship belt. The legend, the myth, Mick "Crocodile" Dundee!

The champ is on a six fight winning streak, and this will be his third title defence. He looks ready, and looks set to be a face of GAMMA in years to come.  Mingo also looks as ready as ever, though getting a title shot while on a 2 fight losing streak is puzzling, he is talented and up for the task.

Prediction:  Easy prediction, Dundee has been dominant since setting foot in a GKNY cage, he is hungry and motivated to build a legacy in MMA.  He has a fantastic string of TKO highlights, and will take this fight in exactly the same manner.  Dundee by strikes finish, round one.  #andstill.

Another fantastic card previewed, and this one felt extra special to do.  Until next time, remember to train hard, and train often.
