Thompson Calling MacManus Out

Fighter profile of Ed Thompson by Kawika Kelly

Recently, I had an Interview with Dawg Pound Elite Fighting Middleweight Ed Thompson, and let's just say he had a lot to say about a certain someone.

Q: You just had your first MMA fight, which was a win via Ground N' Pound. How did if feel to go into the cage for the first time?

A: It was an amazing feeling. Going into the cage, I had the mindset where I knew I was not going to look the same when I came out, but as long as I won, it's worth it. My way of fighting is to go in the cage, give it all I got, do whatever I gotta do for the win. For me, I have to win. I don't expect myself to be anything but the best. In MMA, there's a winner and a loser, and I hate being a loser. So I'm just gonna do what I gotta do, and if the fans love my style of fighting, so be it.

Q: Speaking of Fans, Since your MMA debut, there has been a buzz around the Hilo MMA community about you, and you have have become a rising fan favorite.  Because of that rapid fan based, Dawg Pound Elite Fighting has given you the oppurtunity to fight for their company. What do you have to say to your fans, and How do you feel about fighting for DPEF?

A: Well, to all of my fans, thank you all for the support so far. I know that the love that is it given to me by y'all is genuine. That's why it is my duty to give y'all the best fights possible. Now as for fighting for Dawg Pound Elite Fighting............ I just wanna say it is an honor for me to fight there. Great Company, Great Fighters, Awesome fan base, it doesn't get any better than this company in Hilo. I am blessed to fight here given that I've only had one fight so far. I can't wait to ply my trade for DPEF.

Q: Now your first DPEF fight is on July 13th, against Jose Guerra. If you win, there's a chance you might get a title shot against DPEF Miiddleweight Champion, Murphy MacManus. How do you feel about this fight, knowing there is some potential tiltle implications?

A: Well, first I just wanna preface it by saying that I respect Jose, we have the same style of fighting. Wrestling background with a hint of Boxing. Now with that said, I believe I have what it takes to beat Jose. I'm not gonna say how I'm going to win, but in the words of the great Chael P. Sonnen, there is going to a one-sided pounding and I'm swinging the hammer. Now as for that title shot, I wouldn't mind giving MacManus the beating of his life, I'll be doing DPEF a favor.

Q: Do I smell a hint of hatred towards MacManus, Ed?

A: It's not that I hate him. I don't think he deserves to be champion. Looking at his wins, how he won, and how fought against Demien Maia, I don't think he deserves to be champion. If I fight him, I will show that Clinching every 5 seconds can only get you far, and that MacManus is not worthy of being the champion.

Q: Wow, harsh words towards the champion. But consider that you just recently became a MMA fighter, A re you really sure you are capable of beating MacManus? I mean, he has fought some good fighters.

A: By clinching and running around, His whole mma career, he's done a lot of Stalling, Running, and Hiding. That's not what MMA is about. It's grown men beating the crud out of each other fom pillar to post. This isn't a redition of Marius Petipa's Nutcracker. It's a Combat Sport. I.E. We beat the crap out of each other. So MacManus has gotta do a lot more if he wants to stay champion.

Q: Final Question: There have been wrestlers who have become very successful in MMA. Guys like Dan Severn, Randy Coutore, Dan Henderson, Matt Hughes & Rashad Evans come to mind. Do you feel you will be as successful as them?

A: Hhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm......................... Good Question. I believe I can be. Whether it will happen, only time will tell. I mean the names you have mentioned are legendary. All I wanna think about is being the best. Fighting the best guys, having the best fights. That's all I'm thinking about right now.

Q: Alright, well thank you for your time. Is there anything you wanna say before we wrap up?

A: Yes, MacManus, If you're watching this, I hope you tremble with fear, because I am born to win, and I am born to become DPEF Middleweight Champion.
