Augusto Azevedo Interview (KOTB)

Fighter profile of Augusto Azevedo by

Hey Augusto, thanks for coming into the office. How’s training going at A Hero’s Academy?

Thanks for the invitation, sir. It’s a pleasure to be here. I only recently joined A Hero's Journey: MMA Academy in Rio and things have been going really well.  My training has been tailored towards improving my physical skills and sharpening my ‘Jungle Jiu Jitsu,’ so I should be more than ready come fight night. I must thank the owner Cheech Hertzog for being gracious enough to welcome me into the fold and teaching me the correct way to mop a floor *laughs*

You’ve been with KOTB your entire career, are you happy to be fighting so close to home?

It really is ideal, as traveling is getting increasingly tougher without holding a valid passport. I can’t let anybody take my photo, as I know that the camera steals your soul. So, I can only fight in Brazil for the time being ... plus my entire village packs up and comes to see me fight, so it helps if I fight on home soil, as we are not the strongest swimmers, you know? We lost six poor souls at the local pool just this month!!!

You’ve achieved ‘submission of the night’ bonuses in all three of your fights so far. Are you happy with your success and do you believe you can get another one on Saturday night?

I have been delighted with my early progress in KOTB and plan on continuing my bonus streak for at least another fight. My previous opponents really seemed to struggle with my unique style of grappling and I don’t think the division has seen enough of me to combat my skills. That being said, I was impressed that the champ was able to beat my gym-mate Thiago Machado, so he is going to be a much tougher proposition ... ‘keep you hands up and your chin down’ springs to mind!!!

You were born deep in the Amazon Rainforest, but you appear to be very well spoken in at least two languages and you have a very high IQ. Can you give us a bit of background on your upbringing?

It is quite a sad story at the start but I don’t mind sharing this with the loyal KOTB fans ... I was abandoned by my parents at a very young age and left to fend for myself in the jungle. I hunted spider monkeys or toucans for food by day and slept under a waterfall for safety at night. It was extremely lonely for a while, until I was taken in by Christian missionaries at the age of 10 and taught to act like a human being. I was taught English during the week and then taught a primitive form of jiu jitsu as a reward at weekends. I spent seven happy years there, until they were forced out of the country due to malicious untrue rumors regarding his other "special little soldiers," so I stayed in the local area and helped other orphaned children to improve their lives until I made the move to Rio and full time training

Thank you, Augusto, see you again on Saturday night.

You are very welcome, sir, and thanks for the opportunity to tell my story. There have been too many lies told about "missing parents" and my "taste for flesh," so it has been wonderful to set the record straight … now, who do I collect my fee from for this interview
