Hi Everyone, I’m Nick James (104699) and this is your preview of UPF 9: Petrie Vs. Lincoln (838736). The card was made possible by UPF owner Dale Saw (77197) and we have Jamie McKenna (26734) to thank for arranging the fights. The card features ten fights, with the main event being a heavyweight match, between Drew Petrie and George Lincoln for the vacant Heavyweight Title. And just when it seemed like it couldn’t get any better, I’m pleased to tell you (if you didn’t already know) that we have a second title match in store as Artem Obukhov fights Iker Dedal for the vacant Featherweight Title. The event will take place on Saturday, the 25th of July at The Pipeline arena in Hilo, get your ticket now to avoid disappointment. I’d also like to give a special thanks to Sportsmanship Ltd. Where you can get top of the line clothing from Montreal Canada. Another very special thanks goes out to Spizz Energi (98102) for designing the poster, it looks terrific.

Light Heavyweight Bout - Bitch "I Am " Made (272501) [LEGION OF DOOM] vs "Cardinal" Luis Cardoza (265385) [LEGION OF DOOM]

Up first we have an all LEGION OF DOOM fight between Bitch Made and Luis Cardoza. Bitch Made is a 26 year old fighter from Afghanistan. He currently holds a 3-6 record under current manager Analover Bloodystool (104700). He is on a four fight streak of losses, including UPF losses to Cruze Mcfly and Vin Disel, both by way of submission. Made will be hoping to break this streak, but a fight against Luis Cardoza will not be an easy one. Cardoza is a 20 year old Brazilian fighter under Jamie McKenna (26734), a manager who has found a lot of success here at UPF. Cardoza is set to make his professional debut against Made and if I am brutally honest, he could not have asked for a much easier matchup. I can say with confidence that Cardoza will win this fight, most likely by way of first round submission. Less than 24 hours away from the fight, Bitch Made is absolutely exhausted, he will struggle to even make it into the cage. Even setting that aside, Made has struggled against grapplers and Cardoza is easily a better submission artist than any of Made’s preious opponents. To cap all of that off, Bloodystool has won only 1 of the last 20 fights he has managed, need I say anything else?

Featherweight Bout - Mike "Da Freak" Franklin (272330) [Tycoon Alliance] vs Kto "Ktory" ry (275488)

Up next is a battle between the young and old (by UPF standards anyway) as 26 year old Mike Franklin takes on 18 year old Kto ry. American fighter Mike Franklin has a record of 1-1 coming into this bout, which will be his UPF debut. His manager H-man Parrilla (42135) appears to have made a crucial mistake in the lead up to this fight. Franklin is currently still in Los Angeles, where he currently resides, and will fly out to Hilo at the latest possible time. This is a common tactic for managers in order to save money on accommodation for their fighters, although it is quite unadvisable. Flying takes energy out of fighters, which means it can be the difference between a win and a loss and UPF win bonuses are currently at least $4000, which is the equivalent of 40 nights in a hotel. Franklin’s case is a little different, however. He has a very tough weight cut down to 145 and with a loss of energy so close to the fight, he is set to miss weight. He should be able to trim off the excess weight and still fight, but it will take a lot out of him. His opponent, ry is a promising prospect from Poland fighting under manager Kto Rycerz (105015). He holds a 2-0 record and will also be making his UPF debut. Like his opponent, ry is not in Hilo yet, but he has much less weight to cut, so it will not impact his weight cut. The circumstances the fight will take place under, have made it very difficult to call. I am not very confident in this, but I’m going to say Franklin will win, despite the energy issues he will have. The two fighters are very similar, but Franklin is just a bit better in all areas as would be expected with the difference in experience.

Middleweight Bout - Tyrion Shanahan (274313) [LEGION OF DOOM] vs Mike "Graves" Graves (274013)

The third fight of the evening is a very interesting bout in terms of statistics. The two fighters Tyrion Shanahan and Mike Graves, are both 18, both American, both have records of 1-1, both are set to make their third UPF appearances and have both beaten Phillip Cole and have both lost to Felipe Senna. Aside from their skills, their only real difference is in who manages them. Shanahan is managed by top UPF manager Gustav Nyquist (104115), whose other fighter, Rick Grimes, recently fought for the Light Heavyweight title here at UPF. The opposing manager is Brain Chavo (68419) who has managed over 100 fights. Despite the astonishing similarities, this fight is an absolute no-brainer for me and Shanahan will take an easy KO/TKO victory in the first round. Shanahan’s stand-up is far superior to Graves and he definitely has the ability to defend any takedowns from Graves. In addition to this, less the fight is in less than 24 hours and Graves is absolutely exhausted, which will make it near impossible for him to score a takedown on Shanahan and his mouth will lay wide open from the first bell, which will set up an easy Shanahan knockout. As a side note, Brian Chavo, please avoid using the names of real MMA fighters in the future as this is a breach of MMA Tycoon rules.

Welterweight Bout - Keith "Roar" Masters (275375) vs Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom (273638)

Up next is another bout between youngsters as 20 year old Australian Keith Masters takes on the American 18 year old Harry Angstrom. Sydney native Keith Masters is a mathematician turned fighter with a professional MMA record of 3-0 under his manager of the same name (105293). Masters is now fighting in the big league at UPF and will be making his debut. With his two sisters watching from home, Masters will be hoping to pick up the win and not have to return to them with a broken jaw. He will also be hoping to return with a nice win bonus to get him closer to moving out of home which is pretty close to impossible in Sydney these days. Did you know that the average house price in Sydney is $1 million (AUS), which is more than London? Harry Angstrom is unlikely to care about Australian real estate prices and will not let them sway his performance. Despite his youth, Angstrom is the more experienced fighter with a record of 4-1. Angstrom won’t have any Pit jitters coming into this bout either, after picking up a win in his UPF debut against Dashawn Hopkins, under his manager Michael Angelo (98558). It will be a close fight, but I believe Angstrom will take the win. Angstrom is primarily a grappler which will play in his favour against Masters who has questionable takedown defence. I just hope Angstrom isn’t deported before the fight, as he currently cannot afford a hotel bill, he in fact owes $776.43, he might need the win bonus even more than Masters!

Middleweight Bout - Vincent "Toto" Thomas (273980) [Tycoon Alliance] vs Sal "The Engineer" Thompson (273853) [Tycoon Alliance]

Fight number five pits 20 year old Americans Vincent Thomas and Sal Thompson against each other. Strangely enough, both fighter are managed by Zeke Allen (104894), who will pick up both a win and a loss regardless in this match. Thomas currently has a record of 2-2, but has lost his last two which were UPF fights against Adalet Sadik and Emilio McCann. His opponent Thompson has a pretty poor record of 1-3, but managed to turn his fortunes around in his last fight against Stipe Drivis at UPF 4, after losing to Twelve Knickerbocker at UPF 1. This is a tricky fight to call, and really, whoever Allen wants to win will win, but I’d give the advantage to Thomas. Thomas a BJJ purple belt has a clear advantage on the ground against white belt Thompson and has scored 100% of his takedown attempts. Thompson on the other hand has very poor takedown defence which will bode well for Thomas, who should pick up a comfortable submission victory.

Lightweight Bout - Combo "Striker" King (264462) vs Juan Torres (269238)

Up next is a bout I am truly excited for as classy boxers Combo King and Juan Torres square off. King is a native of the USA and is 20 years old coming into his UPF debut. He holds a relatively poor record of 1-3 under Donnie Jackson (954), which is not a good reflection of his skill level. His opponent a 26 year old from Bolivia has a slightly better record under his manager Renato Santiago (101453). This is a very difficult bout to call as the two fighters are very similar, but I’d just about give it to Torres. I think he has a slight advantage on the feet against King, which may force king to fall back on his wrestling which is superior. Torres however, holds a BJJ blue belt and actually won his last fight by way of submission, which he could very well do again if the fight ends up on the mat.

Welterweight Bout - Pascal "Turtlez" Lhant (271725) vs Snake Jackson (272630)

The seventh bout of the evening is one I am even more excited for, which pits striker against grappler as Pascal Lhant goes up against Snake Jackson. Wonderful boxer Lhant at only 19 years old is a true force to be reckoned with here at UPF. The Dane, managed by Thor Thorsen (4586) has only fought once in a fight in which he pulled off an outstanding 42 second knockout against Maurice Messier at UPF 4 to take out KO of the Night honours. His opponent is also just 19 years old, but is a completely different fighter. Where Jackson loses out in the stand-up, he more than makes up for in the grappling department, which has lead him to a record of 2-0 under manager Classy Grappler (104238). Like his opponent, Jackson pulled off a win in his UPF debut which happened at UPF 4, in dominating fashion, although he won via submission rather than KO. The outcome of this fight will depend entirely on whether Jackson can bring the fight to the mat and I have changed my mind on who will win several times whilst writing this. I am going with Lhant though. I think he can score a knockout before Jackson can land a takedown. What was one of the two real deciding factors for me is that Jackson is very small for the weight class, meaning he will struggle to get past the reach of Lhant and will struggle to take the bigger man to the mat. The other deciding factor is just the experience level of manager Thor Thorsen who has nearly 400 fights to his name. If Jackson can clinch up and pull guard early I can definitely see him winning the fight though.

Welterweight Bout - Prince "The Arm Bar" Edgar (274581) vs Mondo Bambino (276028) [Force Fight Team]

Up next is another case of striker vs grappler as Prince Edgar takes on Mondo Bambino. Edgar is a 25 year old from the ever so popular tourist destination (at least in summer), The Gold Coast in Australia. Under his manager Tj Moyer (105106), Edgar has a record of 3-1 including wins in both of his UPF fights against Jamal Lewis and my least favourite fighter in the whole world, Andrew “Shit Cunt” Jackson. His opponent, Bambino, is a 25 year old Muay Thai specialist from the US with a record of 1-0. His manager Rico Rico (105334) has him fighting in the big leagues now here at UPF and he will not have an easy debut against Edgar. This is by no means an easy fight to call, but I have to give it to Edgar. Bambino is a very similar fighter to Andrew Jackson who Edgar was able to beat with relative ease. That said, Bambino is better than Jackson and could have better luck defending the takedowns, but without having a UPF fight, we really can’t know for sure.

Co-Main Event

Featherweight Title Bout - Artem Obukhov (272032) vs Iker "Iker " Dedal (265772)

The co-main event of the evening is a featherweight bout for the vacant title between Artem Obukhov and Iker Dedal. Obukhov is a very dominant fighter from Uzbekistan aged 26. He holds a 1-0 record under manager Mike Watt (36111) who is a true veteran of MMA with over 950 managed fights to his name. Watt would have been very pleased with Obukhov’s UPF debut and only fight, which was a Submission and Fight of the Night worthy victory against Butch Jenkins. Obukhov’s opponent tonight presents a much greater challenge than Butch Jenkins. Iker Dedal is a 27 year old Spanish fighter with a record of 5-4. His manager Avalanrz Avalanrz (100808) will be very happy to see his man be awarded a title match in his UPF debut but with a fight history like Dedal’s, it’s very hard to argue with the match making of Jamie McKenna. When comparing the two fighters in terms of skills, it looks to be a relatively easy win for Dedal, as he is superior in both striking and grappling. There is however, much more to consider. Dedal’s manager Avalanrz was either overconfident, careless or stingy or maybe a combination of all three and has chosen to leave travelling from Spain to Hilo very late. Flying cross-continent will have a pretty big effect on his energy, giving Obukhov a significant advantage. In addition to this, it is hard to rule out a fighter fighting under a manager like Mike Watt, so I’m really stumped on this one. I’m going to put my balls on the table and say Obukhov takes the win, but I don’t think I’ve ever been less sure of anything.

Main Event

Heavyweight Title Bout - Drew "Dish" Petrie (265750) [BackYard Brawlers] vs "The American Man" George Lincoln (275090)

And finally, the match we’ve all been waiting for, Australian Drew Petrie against American George Lincoln for the vacant UPF Heavyweight Championship. 26 year old Drew Petrie currently has a record of 6-2 and is a very accomplished striker and knockout artist. His manager Monstah Lobstah (103024) guided him to a tremendous 36 second knockout victory against Lil Kuntry in his UPF debut, which was enough to earn him a shot at the belt. His opponent, George Lincoln, managed by Dick Dirkin (105235), is a year younger than Petrie. Lincoln is well known for his wrestling and ground and pound skills which have lead him to claiming a 3-0 record. Lincoln made his UPF debut at UPF 5 with a decision victory against Julius Caesar which was enough to earn him a shot at the belt. Unlike the other title fight on the card, I can pick a clear winner in this bout. Drew Petrie will bring the belt back to Straya, where I am sure his mates will be waiting so celebrate his victory Australian style (goon sack and some beers). George Lincoln will be relying on scoring takedowns against Drew Petrie, but I don’t see them being there. Petrie’s greatest victories have come against wrestlers and it’s actually been other strikers that have caused him problems. His takedown defence will be more than enough to top the offence of Lincoln and his striking ability will see him score a knockout at some stage before the end of the five rounds.

This will be no doubt, a fantastic night of fights, 10 fights, 2 title fights, 20 warriors! Do not miss it. We also have some great events coming up in UPF, on Wednesday we have UPF Wednesday Night Fights 3 and next Saturday we have UPF 10 which features five title fights!!! I’m literally foaming at the mouth thinking about that one.

Good luck to all the fighters and managers competing tonight!
