Polish MMA

The first contact with the MMA in Poland took place in 1996, when it Poznan Aikido instructor Charles Matuszczak after watching the first UFC gal made contact with the student Rickson Gracie, who taught him the basics of a new discipline. In 2000, he organized a struggle for Polish Championship in the Free rollers which was attended by: Charles Matuszczak and Tomasz Jamróz. This fight is not regarded as the first Polish MMA bout since its rules were heavily truncated (especially the ground).

The first historical struggle in Poland (according to standard rules of MMA) organized during the fair Miroslaw Okniński Body bodybuilding show which was held in Warsaw 10.10.2002. In this historic struggle faced: Themistocles Teresiewicz and Grzegorz Jakubowski. After 45 minutes, cage fighting murderous declared a draw.

It is also important date 24.02.2004 r. That's when we had the first historical show KSW Marriott Hotel in Warsaw. The winner was Lukasz Jurkowski - KSW veteran later. Starting from the NSF II galas are broadcast on Polsat Sport and Polsace (from NSF XI).

In 2005, then narrow circle of MMA fans in Poland walked sensational news about the fact that the Olympic Champion from Atlanta in judo paweł nastula will fight for the legendary Japanese Pride organization. The year 2007 is another important date in the history of Polish MMA. That was when recording a series of 13 victories in a row Thomas Woodman signed a contract with the biggest MMA federation in the world that is the UFC, September 8 this year became the first Pole who fought for the UFC. In his debut he lost by technical knockout of Thiago Silva.

Four years later, another Pole Maciej Jewtuszko after absorbing the WEC by the UFC has become the biggest player in the world federation. His adventure with the UFC lasted a very short time, not long after losing at UFC 127 with Curt Warburton was released from the contract.

Currently, a precursor Polish MMA is considered to still active in the sport: Charles Matuszczak, Miroslaw Oknińskiego, Piotr Baginski, Mariusz and Maciej Linke, Marcin Dudek, or Paul Ziolkowski.
