 WC: Wednesday Night Fights 1

PREVIEW

Welcome! World Combat Championship is proud to present the first edition of Wednesday Night Fights! We want to thank Hard Knocks – NewYork for setting up the arena for this amazing event. WC and its fighters also want to acknowledge Big Bear Nutrition for being steady partners for the organization and providing great products to warriors inside the cage.

Now let's get started! We have 10 fights in store for you. Let me give you a sneak peek and some predictions at the matches up ahead.

Burenka Mu Mu (0 – 0) vs. Ted “The Million Dollar Man” Dibiase (0 – 2)

Heavyweight Division

We start our event with fighters wanting to prove something in the cage. 26-year-old Burenka Mu Mu hopes to get a win in his first fight as a mixed martial artist and getting a great start in World Combat Championship. On the other hand, Ted “The Million Dollar Man” Dibiase wants to win, following two consecutive losses by TKO, this time around to demonstrate his ability to prove his worth in the division and the organization.

Mu Mu, who is 220 cm and weighs 280 lbs, is significantly taller and bigger than Dibiase who is only 191 cm tall and weighs 240 lbs. Add Mu Mu's remarkable boxing and competent wrestling, he can dominate the standup and ground game. We can't take anything away from the Million Dollar Man though. Dibiase has wonderful wrestling but is also comfortable trading strikes with his opponents. One factor in Dibiase's arsenal is being a cornered animal. Two straight losses in WC for Ted Dibiase means this fight is “kill or be killed”. Another loss might jeopardize his career in the organization.

Can Mu Mu pop the cherry with a bang? Or will Dibiase's survival instinct kick in and make the difference?

The Dog Sharik (0 – 1) vs. Ioannis Markakis (1 – 1)

Middleweight Division

This Light Heavyweight bout features the new talent in the division. The Dog Sharik comes with an excellent Muai Thai background and is said by scouts to have natural KO power in his hits. His first fight did not go well though as he lost via a late submission in the 3rd round against journeyman fighter David Trezeguet (21 – 35) in the Quick Fight Championship. Sharik's opponent, Ioannis Markakis hopes to counter that KO power with his granite chin. Markakis' 1 win 1 loss record does not fully give an account of his ability but reports indicate a strong wrestling and jiu jitsu background for him.

These two fighters have not shown their full capabilities in the cage so this fight is up for grabs. Will superior Mua Thai by Sharik clinch the win? Or Markakis' ground game take down the victory?

Zailer “The Tailor” Bronson (2 – 0) vs. Nicolas “Nico” Gracie (1 – 0 )

Light Heavyweight Division

This match up presents two youngsters with different approaches of reaching the top of the Heavyweight Division. Zailer “The Tailor” Bronson is an example of a well rounded mixed martial artist. Bronson might have no specialty in his skills but his balanced approach in fighting already garnered him two wins in his career. His temperament is said to be of a brawler with massive confidence but he has shown to be capable of submitting his opponents and winning with points. Nicolas “Nico” Gracie might not be as well rounded as Bronson but he sure is a capable wrestler and jiu jitsu artist. This capacity was shown with a first round submission victory in his first fight as a mixed martial artist. Nico, as his trainers and training partners call him, is said to be an intelligent fighter, cerebral even, in the cage. Gracie hopes to take the fight into the ground and use his superior skills and intelligence there to gain the victory.

It is hard to decide who will come out of this bout as the winner and it might be up to the viewers and their preference for the jack of all trades or an effective one dimensional fighter.

Steven "Die Klappershlange" Hofmann (2 – 2) vs. Yury “The Killer” Soares (3 – 2)

Bantamweight Division

The two fighters here are coming off of inconsistent performances and they hope to get a win to spark better outcomes in the future. Starting with Steven "Die Klappershlange" Hofmann we have a fighter who won his first two fights then lost the next two. He has shown to be aggressive in the cage which proved to be both a strength and weakness. Hofmann does have vicious kicks that complement his striking and as I found out his nickname “Die Klappershlange” means “The Rattlesnake” so it's safe to say that those kicks have venom in them! The Brazilian Yury “The Killer” Soares comes in with a trend of winning a fight and then losing the next. Soares is a Muai Thai expert with the same or even more aggression as Hofmann espescially in getting the clinch. He can also get away with that agression because of a solid chin which allows him to move forward without any worries.

This fight seems to go to a brawl as these two fighters have a tendency to go toe to toe with their opponents. It might just only be a matter of who's going to get the big shot first to determine the winner in this bout. Can The Rattlesnake inject his deadly venom? Or will Soares play exterminator and come out the victor?

Michael “The Terror” Cera (3 – 0) vs. Antero Vipunen (2 – 1)

Bantamweight Division

The second bantamweight fight we have features submission artist Michael “The Terror” Cera and Antero Vipunen. Micheal Cera is a fighter that boasts a 3 – 0 record with all of his fights ending in a submission. The Terror wants to keep this streak alive as he faces his first opponent here in World Combat Championship. It won't be an easy task though, as Anter Vipunen is a solid all-around fighter and that versatility might be the difference in the bout. “The Terror” Cera would prefer this fight to go to the ground and because Vipunen has been submitted before he does have a chance of finishing battle with another submission vicotry. But Vipunen has shown an ability to land solid shots and score points so an over enthusiastic Cera might be in trouble.

This fight is pivotal for these two fighters because both of them present challenges to each other. This is again up for grabs. A versatile fighter against a warrior with a honed skill. A win for either Cera or Vipunen will be a boost to their stature in the division and also help them learn what can be done to improve their game.

#9 Axe “Repeatedly” MeatsFlesh (3 – 4) vs. #8 Dhal Sim (5 – 3)

Light Heavyweight Division

This light heavyweight bout is definitely going to shake up the rankings in the division. 9th ranked WC Heavyweight Axe “Repeatedly” MeatsFlesh is a fighter that is suffering from a 3 fight losing streak. And two of these losses came from our current 4th ranked light heavyweight Doyle Hawk (7 – 4). This fight means a lot to MeatsFlesh because it is a chance to get back on the winning track and go up the division ladder. It's hitting two birds with one stone as they say. He will try to get the win by utilizing his remarkable stand up game and proficient wrestling. His strong chin will also be a factor if he wants to slug it out and stay on his feet. Now, our 8th ranked Dhal Sim is actually a kickboxing veteran more than a mixed martial arts one. His first 7 fights came in PRIDE which is a kickboxing event. His first fight in the cage, however, resulted in a disappointing submission loss to Charlie Simpson. A win over MeatsFlesh results in a good comeback for Dhal Sim and will show that he has adapted to the mma game. Sim's arsenal includes his wonderful Mua Thai expertise and a gas tank that can do the long haul.

Dhal Sim looks to be a more rounded fighter than Axe MeatsFlesh and that could spell the difference in the bout. We still can't count out MeatsFlesh because he has shown in the past his power. Still, I say Dhal Sim is the favorite here and I predict a stoppage via strikes in the clinch.

Floyd “Pork Chop” Patterson (4 – 0) vs. Mike Jursllla (2 – 0)

Heavyweight Division

This fight in the heavyweight division might be a potential scene stealer in the event as Floyd “Pork Chop” Patterson is set to face Mike Jursllla. “Pork Chop” Patterson has started his mma career strong. 4 fights and all wins this fighter has literally submitted his opponents with his vicious strikes. But now in WC he faces better opposition than the ones found in QFC. This fight is certainly a proving ground to see if he can stand and fight with the big guys. Patterson is a fighter with exceptional wrestling but interestingly enough, his gameplan is to go to the clinch and use his ferocious elbows to administer damage. The Swedish giant Mike Jurslla had a great start at WC by defeating Bobby Rude via TKO. Jurslla is said to be quick and possesses solid Muai Thai and a decent wrestling ability. These skills should help him in evading the closing in of Patterson if Pork Chop's gameplan is still to clinch and set up Jurslla's striking on the outside.

The scenario of the fight is interesting since both fighter like to slug it out. From what I see on paper, Floyd Patterson is ahead. And I can't discount the dominating performances of Pork Chop against his opponents in the QFC. So, I go for Patterson here winning via TKO.

#8 "The Crown Prince" Arthas Menethil (6 – 0) vs. Timmy "The Black Mamba" TwoTone (6 – 2)

Bantamweight Division

The last undercard on this event squares off “The Crown Prince” Arthas Menethil against Timmy "The Black Mamba" TwoTone. Arthas Menethil, our 8th ranked bantamweight, will be playing gatekeeper in this match. If Menethil also gets a win here he can possibly penetrate higher up the ranks that would lead to better chances for a title shot. The Crown Prince is a submission specialist who likes to take to the ground but he has shown an effort of improving his striking as evidenced by his KO victory against CJ Stone in WC 19. Arthas Menethil would probably still be focused on getting the ground game started since it is his forte. Menethil's opponent, Timmy TwoTone, is making his debut fight for WC in this event. A veteran of 8 fights and winning 6, The Black Mamba has a solid Muai Thai base and has power in his strikes with 5 of his 6 wins come from TKOs. He has been unlucky in his last three fights winning only one of these. A crucial point to notice is that TwoTone's two losses came from fighters with really good wrestling and jiu jitsu. This fight is Timmy TwoTone's chance to prove to his doubters that he can take on good wrestlers and grapplers.

From what I see, what Menethil's advantage over the ground game is counerbalanced by better Muai Thai and boxing by TwoTone. I haven't seen The Crown Prince take on a formidable striker before TwoTone so I don't have a guess on how he'll fare. But what we have is proof that The Black Mamba has a hard time on the ground. So from the information I have, I'll go for “The Crown Prince” Arthas Menethis to win it via unanimous decision or submission.

#7 Dark Terror (5 – 2) vs. #4 Saladin "Quick Sand" Hussain (11 – 6)

Middleweight Division

Here is our co-main event! Dark Terror versus Saladin "Quick Sand" Hussain! This is an exciting matchup as these two fighters are masters of groundwork and we expect to see some amazing wrestling and jiu jitsu. Starting of with Dark Terror, we have a fighter who is a vicious brawler that will take you on standing or on the ground. He is a wonderful wrestler and he uses that advantage to take control of the top position and land sinister blows to his opponents. With all of his wins coming by way of TKO we expect Terror to do the same here against Hussain. “Quick Sand” Hussain uses the ground as well but with a different weapon of choice. His submissions are menacing and his 3 sumbission of the night awards is a testament to the level of skill he has in that area. Hussain recently recorded a win against rank 2 middleweight Billy Tinkl (13 – 7) and a win here can give him closer to his title hopes.

Looking at these two fighters it can go either way. If they both decide to go on the ground early then I see Hussain getting the edge because of his superior jiu jitsu skills. Quick Sand can fend off Terror's wrestling with his own and the submission will be there for the taking I think. But if Terror would try to stay standing and set up his striking then I think Dark Terror takes this one.

#4 Magnus “Bear” Cross (14 – 8) vs. #7 Chang "Fung" Pi (7 – 1)

Heavyweight Division

We go to our main event! Magnus “Bear” Cross going toe to toe with Chang “Fung” Pi! This fight is definitely a game changer for both of these fighters and the division as the winner of this bout will surely be noticed and might be in contention for the title! The Island semi-finalist Magnus “Bear” Cross is set to continue his winning streak here in WC. His last two fights have ended in TKO victories and one of those wins was against former World Combat champion #6 San Terra (14 – 8). Furthermore, all of his wins came from TKOs and that is due to the fact that he has exceptional boxing for his standup game superb wrestling for ground and pound. Cross also possesses iron lungs and this allows him to continue that barrage of strikes. Chang “Fung” Pi is relatively a newcomer in the sport but has shown great promise by winning seven of his eight fights with 6 of those wins via TKO. Pi is also a fearsome striker and is willing to exchange blows with anyone. This surely going to be a brawl between these two fighters!

I predict Cross is going to win by virtue of experience. Cross might be younger but the frequency of his fights have improved his game immensely and his skill might be beyond his age. If Pi can't mix things up and just go head to head with Cross then I don't think it's going to end well. Cross via TKO victory.

We hope you enjoy this preview of WC: Wednesday Night Fights 1 and we hope to see you on the 13th of May!
