Wednesday Warriors 2 Preview

Event Preview: RFC Wednesday Warriors 2
Royal Fighting Championship
2014-08-06, Sydney, Wild Bob's Bar - Sydney
Author:Jake LeBeau

RFC Wednesday Warriors 2 will take place on August 6 in front of a sold out crows at Wild Bobs bar in downtown Sydney Australia.  It will be headlined by a fight between two of the best light heavyweight prospects in the Sydney and Co-headlined by a Light Heavyweight title fight between champion Pertii Silsa and challenger Julio El Toro. Several of the best fighters within the organization will also be on display in this action packed card.

Daz Tosh (0-0) vs Katsu Masa (0-0-1)

Both of these bantamweights will be making their RFC debut in this fight. Masa has a solid background in Muay Thai whereas Tosh is a solid wrestler with good BJJ. Because of this Tosh will want to get the fight to the ground and try to control Masa and keep him on his back.  Masa will need to use his takedown defense to keep it standing and use his striking to win the fight.  I think this will be close but Masa should have enough in him to see his way to victory.

Prediction: Masa UD

Tony “Toes” Stone (2-1) vs Meha "U Jelly" Gusta (0-0)

Gusta will be making his debut as a professional fighter; he is coming into this fight with a huge boxing advantage and will look to finish with his hands. Stone however projects to be a fairly significant favorite as he does have more experience and should have a big advantage in the clinch and on the ground. I believe he finds a way to finish the newcomer and move up the rankings.

Prediction: Stone (T)KO Round 3

Cacio "The Gargoyle" Aristides (3-1) vs Lee Norris (0-0)

In his last fight “The Gargoyle” was able to pull the biggest upset in RFC history and will be carrying that momentum in to this fight as he takes on the well rounded newcomer Lee Norris. Cacio will want to use his takedowns to control this fight and ware down his opponent. For Norris he will be looking to keep it standing and out strike his veteran opponent. I think that Cacio will be able to ride takedowns and ground control to victory.

Prediction: Aristides UD

Little “Shaolin” Prince (1-0) vs Shane Turko (0-0)

The game plan for each of these heavyweights is very simple; Prince will want to keep it standing and knock his opponent out. Turko will want to bring it to the ground where he can easily tap Prince, who is a white belt. Prince won his pro debut with a vicious KO and proved that he has good takedown defense, therefore I believe he can get a similar result here’ though Turko definitely has the ability to finish Prince as well.

Prediction: Prince (T)KO Round 1

Roman “The Dog” Chill (1-0) vs Guy “G-Man” Girdler (1-0)

Both of these young middleweights are putting their undefeated records on the line in an attempt to gain a big victory and catapult themselves up the rankings. Chill comes in to this fight with a big advantage on the ground with his BJJ. Girdler however should be able to out strike the less refined Chill and see his way to victory assuming his takedown defense holds up.

Prediction: Girdler UD

Tyrese “Teddy” Williams (2-1) vs Alex James (0-0)

James will be making his pro mma debut today as he takes on the very tough Tyrese Williams. James is a fantastic boxer and will want to use his big punches to KO Williams. “Teddy” should be able to use his good ground game to bring James down and control the fight though this fight is seriously in doubt as it appears Williams will not make weight. If this happens James will be put on the next card and given his debut as I am anxious to see what the talented youngster has in store for the RFC.

Prediction: NC

Szymon "Młot" Piechnicki (3-7) vs Desmond "Diamond" Zertiis (5-6)

“Mlot” will be making his last appearance at 205 as he will move up to heavyweight and look to do so in style by beating the former 205lb title challenger Desmond Zertiis.  As always “Mlot” will come in to the fight looking to use his great stand up game to out strike his opponent. However Zertiis is a very accomplished striker as well and has a ground game that should be too much for Szymon to handle. I expect the “Diamond” to snap his losing streak and get back in the win column in exciting fashion.

Prediction: Zertiis Sub Round 1

Balmon "Dmt" Uguandu (1-0) vs Vello Tehnas (1-0)

This fight in the heavyweight division is a title eliminator assuming one of them wins impressively. Tehnas is a great wrestler and submission expert who will want to get it to the ground quickly and work a submission. As for Uguandu he is an amazing striker who proved to have great takedown defense in his last fight, he will want to use his heavy hands to put Tehnas away early to avoid multiple takedown attempts.

Prediction: Uguandu (T)KO Round 1

"The Meatgrinder" Pertti Silsa (12-9-1) vs Julio “The Juggernaut” El Toro (7-2)

The co-main event is between current champ Pertti Silsa and dangerous challenger Julio El Toro. Julio is going to want to use his stone like hands to test the chin of the champion. As for Silsa this will be his last fight as a light heavyweight as win or lose he will move up to the open weight division and attempt to continue his championship run there. As for this fight he will want to avoid the striking of the dangerous El Toro and try to bring it to the ground and submit this dangerous challenger, few men in the past have been able to avoid the power of El Toro and I don’t believe Silsa will be able to either.

Prediction: El Toro (T)KO Round 3

Julius "Silent Striker" Karneres (6-0) vs Gary Opdauhl (2-0)

Our main event is between two of the most exciting and popular fighters in all of Sydney. Karneres will be making his RFC debut and carries in a six fight six (T)KO win streak. Opdauhl is now 2-0 in the RFC and is taking on his most high profile opponent. Karneres will look to use his ridiculous boxing ability and great takedown defense to keep this fight standing and finish his opponent with hard strikes. As for Opdauhl he has a big muay thai and BJJ advantage and we could see him try use his kicks, clinch striking, or even his ground ability to try to win this fight. I give Opdauhl a slight edge in this win due to the fact that he is a bit more well-rounded. However Karneres is as dangerous as they come and I would not be shocked to see another KO from the great prospect. One thing I know for sure is that these are two of the best light heavyweight prospects in the world and I am very excited to have them in the organization.

Prediction: Opdauhl (T)KO Round 3

This is going to be a great night of fights full of fantastic wars. This is without a doubt the best card the RFC has ever put together and I can not wait to see the type of reaction that this event gets. As always the bonus amount for this even will be 3k so go out there with a positive game plan and look to put on a show!
