TROID 29: Slider Kings IV

Arena:                            Camden Conference Centre (7,000)

Date:                              2nd August 2014

Merch Partner:               Bad Man Clothing

Hey everyone, and welcome to another Troid event! This time, we are at Slider Kings IV, where our premier fighters compete to display who is the best among the contenders! For your eyes this time, we have five title fights! We also have eight of our top fighters duke it out to potentially put their name down as the next title contender, while our other fight sees a rematch of the org owners, as Grant takes on Craig once more, to see who is the dominant owner! Let us get right down to the action of this stacked card!

FIGHT #1 – Heavyweight Division! – Owner Fight!

Titus Andronicus 1-1-0 (0-1-0) vs Cian Chulainn 3-2-1 (1-0-0)

Our owner vs owner fight sees a rematch between the young Andronicus and the more experienced Chulainn! Chulainn fought smartly last time, utilising his wrestling to take the fight to the ground and grind out a win. Andronicus will be looking to learn from his mistakes and has been hard at work to ensure he won’t be taken down in the fight again. I called for Andronicus last time, and Chulainn picked up the victory. If Andronicus can keep it standing, he will eventually find a strike to end it, but it could be game if Chulainn lands a takedown. My prediction is based on lightning surely not being able to strike twice here!

PREDICTION: Andronicus to win via (T)KO in Round 3

FIGHT #2 – Featherweight Division! – TITLE FIGHT!

Junior Borg 5-3-1 (4-2-1) vs Elijah Hart 3-3-0 (3-1-0)

A solid title fight starts our roster fights as Borg looks to right the wrongs, as he takes on the only person to have finished him in Troid. Borg has improved immensely since then, but so has Hart, and it will surely be a fantastic battle. Borg called for this fight after his last title defence, so it is clear he wants to prove himself as the Alpha Male of the division. Hart managed to finish Borg in their last fight in four minutes via submission, and surely his game plan will be similar here. He has a solid wrestling base, which will ensure a solid battle between his and Borgs styles. Borg has been impressive in his last few fights, while Hart has also been in formidable form. I believe we will see the champ hang onto the title this time however.

PREDICTION: Borg to win via (T)KO in Round 2 to REMAIN the Featherweight Champion!

FIGHT #3 – Light Heavyweight Division!

Magnus Svensson 5-1-0 (4-1-0) vs Ian Connell 7-4-0 (1-1-0)

A big Light Heavyweight clash here brings long time Troid fighter Svensson against relative newcomer Connell. Svensson is a deadly fighter, who seems to possess that instinct of knowing when to strike. He has won 3 of his 4 Troid fights via (T)KO with his last two being one hit KO’s. He may have met his match in the KO Power department in Connell however. Connell has shown a lot of ability in his career, and has a fantastic 100% KO record, with 7 finishes in 7 wins. With both fighters preferring to stand and strike, I would be highly surprised to see any wrestling take place outside of the clinch. This will be a great fight, regardless of who wins.

PREDICTION: Connell to win via (T)KO in Round 2

FIGHT #4 – Lightweight Division! – TITLE FIGHT!

Matt Green 6-0-0 (6-0-0) vs Lane Brooks 7-6-0 (4-2-0)

I am always proud when I see someone start their career in Troid, and be a success. “The Gravy Raven” is one of those I am most proud of. He has gone 6 fights unbeaten in the org, and claimed the division title in the process. Beating Six different competitors on his way, he faces one of those fighters in his first title defence. Lane Brooks will feel more confident going into this fight. He has improved overall as a fighter since the last fight, particularly in his wrestling, which will be crucial to his chances. He also has more experience as a fighter and can finish in a variety of ways, which will serve him well. Matt Green is a submission expert in every sense of the world, with fantastic wrestling to set himself up for his black belt to come to full effect. I wouldn’t be surprised by a Lane Brooks win, but I will go for “The Gravy Raven” to retain his title.

PREDICTION: Green to win via Submission in Round 2 to REMAIN the Lightweight Champion!

FIGHT #5 – Middleweight Fight – TITLE FIGHT!

Lugh Blackburn 6-1-0 (6-1-0) vs Henry Hiena 4-1-0 (4-1-0)

These two square off for the second time, with Hiena getting his championship rematch. Blackburn has been in hot form as of late, after losing his first fight via unanimous decision, he has gone on to win every fight since via (T)KO.  He has proven himself to be a worthy champion, but now he must establish himself as the top man. Hiena on the other hand suffered only the first loss of his career last time out, and will be looking to correct that. It may have been considered a bit of a shock that Blackburn won last time, but now he has the chance to prove himself as no fluke, and as a genuine champion.

PREDICTION: Hiena to win via (T)KO in Round 1 to become the NEW Middleweight Champion!

FIGHT #6 – Featherweight Fight!

Conor Crom 8-2-0 (0-0-0) vs Jack Olin 6-1-0 (6-1-0)

Here we have two fighters who will be vying for the #1 contenders spot. Crom, who will be making his debut, is an exceptional fighter who has previously held the title in BAMMA. We have yet to see what his BJJ skills are like, but he hasn’t needed to show them when his fists have done the job for him so far. He may need to show what his ground game is like when he takes on Olin. Olin has been living up to his nickname of “Man Cannon” so far in his career. He has explosive wrestling which is extremely effective in getting his opponents to the ground, where he smothers them before pounding them into oblivion. This is a classic example of a striker vs a grappler, and a winner is hard to predict here, with both having the ability to finish it.

PREDICTION: Olin to win via (T)KO in Round 2

FIGHT #7 – Middleweight Fight!

Owen Williams 6-0-0 (5-0-0) vs Jeffery Dahmer 6-2-0 (0-0-0)

In this fight, we have two strikers who will be going at it to prove their worth a title contenders. Williams has a clean record, having won all his fights in convincing fashion. He may be facing his toughest challenge to date however, when he takes on former Island fighter Dahmer. Dahmer is a cannibal in every sense of the word. With six wins via (T)KO, he likes to devour his opponents, leaving nothing behind. I can see both fighters winning this, so it will be a case of who strikes first.

PREDICTION: Williams to win via (T)KO in Round 1

FIGHT #8 – Light Heavyweight Division

Thors Hammer 8-3-0 (4-2-0) vs Earl Grey 7-2-0 (7-2-0)

I have had the pleasure of following these two fighters, and they are a contrast in styles. Hammer is a wrestler who likes to take his opponents down, and wail on them with hammerfists until the fight is done. Grey is more tactical in his approach. He likes to take the fight into the clinch, where his elbows do lethal damage and loves nothing more than to win due to excessive bleeding from his opponent. If I had to choose a winner, I would go with the former champion whose wrestling might be good enough to keep him standing.

PREDICTION: Grey to win via TKO (Cut) in Round 2

CO-MAIN EVENT!

FIGHT #9 – Light Heavyweight Fight! – TITLE FIGHT!

Jim Cain 4-0-0 (3-0-0) vs Jackob Johansson 7-2-0 (3-1-0)

A championship rematch here as Cain takes on Johansson. Cain won the last fight in devastating fashion, scoring the win in only 13 seconds! Johansson may have underestimated him last time, but he won’t do so again. Cain has been dominant so far in his career, as he has won 4 fights via KO in a total time of 2:42. Johansson however, has proven himself at being able to fight long term. If this fight reaches the second round, it will be new territory for Cain where his conditioning will be seriously tested. I imagine that Cain will be looking for a swift KO once again, and may be gassed once it reaches the later rounds. For that reason, I predict Johansson to regain his title.

PREDICTION: Johansson to win via (T)KO in Round 4 and become the NEW Light Heavyweight Champion!

MAIN EVENT!

Fight #10 – Welterweight Division! – TITLE FIGHT!

Carlo Froch 8-0-0 (7-0-0) vs Michael Blake 10-1-0 (1-0-0)

Long have we waited for someone to threaten Froch seriously, and now we have not one, but a whole roster full. First up is Blake who has become the first Troid fighter since our revival to break into the top 10. Froch could replace him there with a win, so this is our biggest fight since the revival. Froch is a man who will pound you into oblivion, and show no mercy. He has looked unstoppable at times, and has proven himself to be Troid’s top welterweight. He now has a solid challenger in Blake, who was the champion in Hopkin’s Athletic Club before its closure. He is now looking to take the title in another org, but will have a tough challenge to do that. We know he is a submission specialist, so it will be interesting to see him test Froch’s ground game, while Froch will be testing his stand up game. This is sure to be a fight of epic proportions, and one that will decide the future of the division!

PREDICTION: Froch to win via (T)KO in Round 2 to REMAIN the Welterweight Champion!

This is sure to be Troid’s biggest event so far in our revival, so be sure to check out the results, and also look out for our Review which will be coming out shortly after the event!
