Barbarian Tournament 185lbs

Event Preview: Barbarian Tournament 185lbs
Barbarian Fight Club (ID 230K+)
2014-04-05, Rio de Janeiro, The Underground - Rio
Author:Tony Rossi

I have never lied to you, and I am not going to start now. I am not thrilled about doing this preview. The reason is the middleweight division has never really been featured here in BFC. As I write I get attached to fighters, and I am a huge fan of some of them, so that makes me want to write about and watch those guys. There are not a lot of the fighters that I am a big fan of on this card. Now when it is all over I could be a fan of a few of these guys and honestly I hope I am.

Preliminary Bout Number One- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Roberto "KilleR" Nascimento (1-0) {1-0} versus Zdzislaw "Hardkorowiec" Pokrzywa (2-0) {0-0}

This is an interesting matchup. Normally when a ground and pounder was facing a submission artist I would just say no doubt the Jiu Jitsu fighter was going to win. This is not as black and white as most though. Pokrzywa is so aggressive with striking and looking for submissions he could take Nascimento by surprise. I don’t think that will happen but it easily could. I am picking Roberto Nascimento to win by submission in the first round but only because it is the safe pick, this fight could go either way.

Preliminary Bout Number Two- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Matt "Juicy" Chiasson (5-7) {0-0} versus Paul "Gorgeous" George (1-1) {1-0}

We have the older experienced fighter in Chiasson who can wrestle and box. He is five and seven and the most consecutive fights he has won is two. He is currently on that streak but the question is can he keep it up. George is nineteen and he has had only two fights so he is at a disadvantage with fight experience. He makes up for it in skill though because he is more well-rounded than Chaisson and he is the much better ground fighter. I got George winning this fight in the second round by submission.

Preliminary Bout Number Three- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)

Matheus "Patrão" Peixoto Firmo (0-1) {0-0} versus Rich "Dynamo" Roberts (2-0) {0-0}

Both of these fighters are making their debut in BFC and both of these guys want to make a splash. Matheus is young only nineteen years old. He lost his debut by submission and that is not a good sign since he is a wrestler. Roberts is twenty five years old and two and o in his career. Both of those wins came by submission and he holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. All signs point to Roberts winning this fight with ease and I will agree with that. I got him winning this fight in the first round via submission.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Noob Saibot (3-0) {3-0} versus Chryst Halo (3-1) {1-1}

Sailbot is a striker through and through. He has a background in boxing and Muay Thai and he loves to stand and strike. It would seem that he doesn’t have the finishing power he needs to be overly successful. Halo can box and wrestle. He didn’t attempt any takedowns in his last fight as he uses the wrestling as a defensive tool. He will be overmatched in the striking though in this fight and he might need to take the fight to the ground. I got Sailbot winning this fight by decision unless Halo does get the fight to the ground at least once per round.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Eduardo "Souza " Barros (3-0) {1-0} versus "Superkid" Salvio Sanchez (1-0) {0-0}

These two fighters have a combined record of four and o with four wins by submission. Barros has three of those wins but he is much more of a wrestler than a Jiu Jitsu fighter. He can submit you but he also has a little ground and pound in his as well. Sanchez is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he a little wrestling background. He is not nearly the wrestler that Barros is and I think that’s what this will come down to. I think Barros out wrestles Sanchez and wins this fight by submission in the second round.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Middleweight Title Tournament Fight (185lbs)

Chris "Resident Evil" Redfield (3-0) {0-0} versus Mike Sinatra (2-1) {1-1}

Two TKO and a decision is how Redfield managed to get to his three and o record. The twenty five year old wrestler is a ground and pounder so he will be looking to put Sinatra on his back. Sinatra is also twenty five but he does not have an unblemished record. He is coming off a loss which made his record three and one. He also has two TKO but he is a stand up fighter and not a ground and pounder. Sinatra will lose this fight on the ground so he better have been working on his takedown defense. I got Redfield winning this fight by TKO in the first round after getting a take down.

Main Card Bout Number 2- Middleweight Title Tournament Fight (185lbs)

Roberts "White Bear" Junior (3-2) {3-1} versus Ramon "Thunder" Marcelo (4-1) {0-0}

Junior won his first three fights in Barbarian Fight Club after losing his debut in a QFC. He did lose his last fight by submission but he is a submission fighter himself. He did pick up all three of his wins with submissions two in the first round and one in the second. Marceio will be making his BFC debut in this fight and he is currently four and one. He lost his first fight and then went on a four fight win streak that he will look to continue in this one. Three of his four wins have come by knockout via punch so this boxer will do whatever he can to keep this fight standing. I think Ramon could have enough power to get the knockout before Junior is able to get the fight to the ground so I will pick him to win this one by knockout in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 3- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Tommy Duncan (6-0) {1-0} versus Daeron "Killer" Inglorion (5-2) {4-2}

Duncan is six and o and he could be the future in BFC at Light Heavyweight. I don’t think he will be, but he could. This will be a great test for him in this fight and win here could mean he should be facing the top of the division. Daeron is five and two and he has only lost to the two best fighters at light heavyweight in Barbarian. Daeron is a wrestler and brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so he will be looking for a takedown and a submission early. I got Daeron winning in the second round by submission.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Middleweight Title Tournament Fight (185lbs)

Iceman Mcgregor (4-0) {0-0} versus Teseu "Phoenix" Nogueira (3-0) {2-0}

Mcgregor is four and o and all four of his wins have come by TKO. He is a boxer and a wrestler so he can stand and strike or he can take you to the ground and pound you into submission. His first fight ended in the second round but since then it has been all first round TKO’s. Teseu is a Jiu Jitsu specialist that loves to ground and pound. He wants this fight on the ground by any means necessary. If he can get the wrestler on his back it should be a short fight. I think Iceman’s superior wrestling will be the key to this fight, and I have him winning in the second round by TKO.

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Middleweight Title Tournament Fight (185lbs)

Andrei "Sapo" Saintclair (6-0) {5-0} versus Dj Paul (6-1) {2-1}

This is a rematch from Paul’s debut to Barbarian Fight Club. So the question will be is he more equipped to handle Saintclair now? Well the answer is simple both of these fighters are well equipped for each other. Just like their last fight it could go either way. Both of these fighters have a background in wrestling and they both hold brown belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Out of their combined twelve win they have ten submission victories with each of them having five. It doesn’t get more evenly matched then this, so I have to pick Saintclair to win since he won their last fight. I got him winning by submission again but this time I think it lasts until the third round.

Well that will wrap this preview up and I hope you all enjoyed it. I will see you for the next event coming up on Wednesday. Don’t forget about the Design contests that are currently going on in Barbarian Fight Club and submit your entries.
