Barbarian Fight Club (ID 230K+)
2014-03-08, Rio de Janeiro, Hayashi's Lounge - Rio
Author:Tony Rossi

Welcome to the third tournament finals here in Barbarian Fight Club. Honestly this has my dream matchup in the BFC right now. Tonight we have a very special main event as the two best fighters in the strongest division face each other for the Barbarian Fight Club Welterweight Championship. We will have plenty of time to talk about that later as we need to dive into these fights. Real quick before I do I would like to remind you all to get you supplement needs from MANGO nutrition and for all your betting needs drop by Barbarian Betting.

Preliminary Fight Number 1- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)

Justin "The Arrow" Cruz (1-2) {1-2} versus Filip "Killer" Yolo (1-2) {0-2}

This is an interesting fight as Cruz is a striker and Yolo is a grappler. Cruz I think should be able to end this fight in the stand up at just about any point but those two submission losses loom over his head. He needs to get on track in this fight and to do that he will need to avoid the clinch and stop any and every takedown attempt. Yolo is a ground fighter who has his only win as a submission. He will be trying to get this fight to the ground using wrestling and his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This is a really hard fight to pick, I don’t think Cruz has what it takes to stop the takedows so I have to go with Yolo on this one. I got him ending the fight in the third round by submission.

Preliminary Fight Number 2- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Manuel "Matador" Fernandes (1-1) {0-1} versus Diego Fenandes (0-1) {0-1}

I am pretty sure there is no family relation hear, just a coincidence that the two Fernandes’s are facing off. Not only do they have the same last name but another striking similarity is they both lost their only fight in Barbarian Fight Club. Manny Fernandes was quickly submitted by Abraham Kurse who has been very vocal about wanting to face the top talent. Diego Fernandes was taken to the score cards were he lost on all three judges score cards. I don’t see this fight going to decision but I also don’t see Diego knocking out Manuel. So I will be picking Manny to win by submission in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 3- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Andy "Shark" Souwer (0-0) {0-0} versus Roan Carneiro (5-4) {0-3}

I think Souwer took a really bad fight. The eighteen year old wrestler who has yet to fight professionally will be taking on a twenty five year old Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt. I am not saying that Souwer doesn’t have a chance, but I think Carneiro is better in the stand up, and having the big background in Jiu Jitsu makes him the clear cut favorite. I am going to pick Roan to win, even though he is on a three fight losing streak. I got Roan picking up the submission victory in the first round.

Preliminary Bout Number 4- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)

Nonito Melo (1-0) {1-0} versus Ronaldo "Abacaxi" Oliveira (3-5) {2-2}

This is a rematch from the Barbarian Fight Time 5. In that fight Melo dominated the stand up and held his own on the ground. He may have even been slightly better on the ground. The fight was a unanimous decision and Melo won 29-28 on all three judges’ score cards. I think Melo needs to have a very similar game plan in this fight, keep it standing for as long as possible and work a lot when you get taken down. Honestly Melo should win this fight, but I don’t think he gets the finish as I see this one going to the judges’ score cards.

Preliminary Bout Number 5- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

Joao Paulo (1-1) {0-1} versus Ernesto "La Muerte" El Angel (2-2) {2-1}

Paulo is a well-rounded fighter that should be looking to keeping this fight standing. I think if Paulo can keep it off the mat he should be able to dominate El Angel all night long. The problem with this is actually keeping it off the ground. El Angel is an awesome wrestler who loves to strike while on top. He has been on track as of late, he dropped his first two fights but since then he is two and zero bringing his record to two and two. I think El Angel will be looking for a takedown early and often and I think he will get it. With that being said I got El Angel to win by TKO in the first round.

Main Card Bout Number 1- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Michael Adderiy (3-0) {2-0} versus Rodrigo "Hell Hand" Medeiros (1-1) {0-1}

Adderly will be putting his undefeated record on the line in bout. For him to keep this record he will need to find a way to get this match to the ground. It won’t be to easy for the wrestling purple belt since Medeiros has enough wrestling behind him to keep the fight standing for a while. Once the fight hits the floor it should be for the most part over as Adderly is much better on the ground. Where Medeiros lacks on the ground he more than makes up in the stand up. If this was a K1 fight this would be the most uneven match up in the history of the world. Hell Hand is head and shoulders better in the striking and he should be able to get a knockout, as long as he does not get taken down. As I said before I don’t think Adderly will have an easy time getting the fight to the ground, but I think he will and win this fight by submission in the early parts of the second round.

Main Card Fight Number 2- Heavyweight Fight (265lbs)

"Jovem Nerd" Alexandre Ottoni (2-0) {0-0} versus Michael "Destructor" Tyson (2-0) {1-0}

Ottoni is a gifted striker who has a wrestling background as well. He will be looking to keep the fight standing where he will have the clear cut advantage, but it’s not like he can’t handle himself on the ground. If the fight does stay standing for too long I think Ottoni will walk out of here with another quick win. Tyson is a wrestler and Muay Thai striker but this twenty five year old is going to need to stick with the ground game in this one. He will be overmatched striking in or out of the clinch in this one, but he will have a fighting chance on the ground. I think Tyson does get a takedown or two, but I don’t see him finishing Ottoni. Ottoni is to dangerous to go to decision though, so I will take Ottoni to win by TKO in the third round.

Main Card Fight Number 3- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Eduardo "Souza " Barros (2-0) {0-0} versus Chembakwu "Tiger" Azuibike (1-2) {0-2}

Barros has been impressive before signing with the BFC. The question is will he remain his dominate, he has won both of his fights by submission in the first round but I am not sure he can keep that up. Clearly he is going to try and takedown Tiger but he could have some trouble with that. Tiger has lost his last two fights and every fight since signing with Barbarian Fight Club. If he can keep the fight standing he will have a real chance of winning. I personally don’t think Barros future is as bright as most people but I think he does get the takedown and submission victory in the first round of this fight.

Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)

Abraham "Radioactive" Kurse (3-1) {3-0} versus Jhon "Dragon" Machida (2-0) {1-0}

Kurse has been looking for the big fight and he is well on track. He has won all three of his fights in Barbarian Fight Club and all of them have been by submission in the first round. Kurse does not have the strongest wrestling game but he is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so once on the ground he is a beast. Machida is also a submission specialist but he only holds a brown belt. Brown or black how much of a difference is that? Well it’s a whole lot so Machida is going to need to be on top of his game. He is the better wrestler so he should be able to maintain the better positioning on the ground, but I still think Kurse will get the submission victory. I don’t see it being as early as his last few fights, but I still have him winning in the second round.

Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Welterweight Title Fight (170lbs)

Chiamaka "Vuvuzela" Congo (9-0) {3-0} versus Christopher "The Wolf" Newton (3-0-1) {3-0-1}

Personally this is what I have been waiting for since I heard Congo had signed with Barbarian Fight Club. It is well documented that Congo is one of my favorite fighters, and so is Newton. I love Congo’s clinch which is feared by most, but Newton counters with a phenomenal ground game and some descent stand up to go with it. Newton has proven over and over again he one of the smartest fighters in Barbarian Fight Club and even his training says it as well. After arriving on the scene Newton has been working on his stand up as he was already a good grappler and since this division is loaded up becoming a triple threat could mean you stay on top for a long time. If Congo can get the clinch though Newton will be in trouble, hopefully he has been working on pulling guard in training leading up to this fight. Obviously if the fight goes to the ground Newton will have this in the bag. I am going to pick Newton to win by submission in the early second round as I think he is just too smart to get held up in the clinch.

The waiting is finally over as I get to see two of my favorite fighters lock it up. I am hoping Newton wins, but I will be ok if Congo does so it’s a win win for me. Kurse is becoming one of my favorites so it’s nice to see him in a big time highlighted fight. Once again I would like to thank Barbarian Betting for caring all the odds for these tournaments and I would also like to thank once more MANGO nutrition for supporting us and presenting all of our events. I will see all of you at the fights tonight.
