FNPFC Tournament Round 1 part 2

Event Preview: FNPFC Opening Class Act R1-2
UNFC Tokyo [ID 229K+]
2014-02-15, Tokyo, Hard Knocks - Tokyo
Author:Master Floppzzy

We are back at the Hard Knocks in Tokyo for part two of the Class Act tournament. If you do not remember how the tournament works please check my last FNPFC preview for full details. On February 14th we had the first eight fights of the tournament and just one day later we are looking at the last eight fights of the first round. To round out the ten fight card FNPFC has set two more bantamweight fights just like the first event. The one small change will be that the bantamweights will start off the event instead of closing it out. When this event comes to an end only sixteen fighters will remain in this massive thirty two man tournament.

135 Pound Fight

Gus "The Bus" Dengel (32-21) {0-1} versus Josie "HITMAN" Marquez (12-10-1) {0-0-0}

Dengel wants to get his first win FNPFC since he lost his debut. Before coming over to FNPFC Gus was on a three fight win streak and had won seven of his last ten fights. Gus would like to return to championship form and he has a great but not overpower challenge ahead of him. I would expect Dengel to take this fight to the ground where he should have a tremendous advantage. Marquez will be at a disadvantage on the ground but it’s not overwhelming. Josie is a world class boxer who is on an upswing after getting his first win in four fights. He would love to turn that one win into a streak and beat Dengel but I thing Gus Dengel will win the fight by submission in the second round.

135 Pound Fight

Jonnie Boardwalk (18-8) {1-0} versus "Garage" Tom Mot (29-12-1) {0-0-0}

Boardwalk is a well-rounded fighter who won his FNPFC debut. He is trying to string together a few more wins and possibly get another title fight. He is one and three in title fights and the one win came by split decision. So obviously Boardwalk has to prove to his self and the world that he is more than just a gate keeper. Mot will not be a push over though as he is a knockout specialist. Most previews I do the fighters don’t combine for twenty four fights, and Mot has twenty four wins just by knockout. With all that power he will try not to go to the ground with the black belt and get another victory by knockout. This is a very hard fight to pick a winner but I am going with Boardwalk to win by submission in the second round.

Class Act 155lbs Tournament Round One Fight Number Nine

Random "The Hunter" Hajile (0-0) {0-0} versus Slip "Lion" Cahn (1-1) {0-0}

The Hunter is a wrestling specialist who has been working on his boxing. I think in both departments he could be in trouble so he should have a strange game plan. If I was in the corner of Hajile I would suggest a clinch and trip takedown. Trying very hard to get in to side control and if he can’t land in it, he should try to transition there. If he can’t transition there quickly it’s time to stand up and try again. Cahn is a better striker and he also has Jiu Jitsu training so he has a ton of advantages in this fight. The only week spot I see him having is on the bottom in side control where it is next to impossible to get a submission or a sweep. I don’t think Random can get the fight to that spot so I will pick Cahn to win by TKO in the first round.

Class Act 155lbs Tournament Round One Fight Number Ten

Young Pup (0-0) {0-0} versus Tournament Winner (0-0) {0-0}

Young Pup wants to turn Tournament Winner into the tournament loser. Pup will have the advantage in striking so he will want to keep the fight standing at all costs. He has been working on his wrestling and this will be a great way to show off what he has learned in this fight. Winner is a well-rounded fighter who has an advantage on the ground. If he can get a takedown I think Winner will be able to out point Pup and take home the win by decision. I don’t think that will be the case though, and I see Pup scoring the knockout victory in third round.

Class Act 155lbs Tournament Round One Fight Number Eleven

Manuel "Ares" Perez (0-0) {0-0} versus Sigurd "Snake-In-The-Eye" Lodbrok (0-0) {0-0}

This should be a great brawl style fight. Both of these guys have focused more on their boxing than anything else. I don’t see either one of these guys trying for any takedowns all though Perez is the better grappler. I expect both of these guys to stand in the center of the cage and throw bombs at each other and the winner of this fight should get their first win via knockout. Since I don’t have a lot of info on these fighters I have to pick the guy who has the better corner. So I am taking Manuel Perez to win this fight by knockout in the first round.

Class Act 155lbs Tournament Round One Fight Number Twelve

Hans Donnerwetter (1-0) {0-0} versus Dominik "The Crusher" Kokoszka (0-0) {0-0}

This seems like a lopsided fight to me. Donnerwetter is good fighter don’t get me wrong but I feel the seventeen year old Kokoszka is better in almost every way. Hans has a small chance on the ground since he does have slightly better Jiu Jitsu, but getting the fight to the ground could be a tough task as Dominik’s wrestling is just as good. Kokoszka is clearly the better striker and he should dominate on while standing up. If Dominik can stop the takedowns then Hans has a zero chance to win. I am picking Dominik to win the fight by knockout in the first round.

Class Act 155lbs Tournament Round One Fight Number Thirteen

Paul "Scrap" Landen (1-0) {0-0} versus Randulfr "The Annihilator" Simms (0-3) {0-3}

This is Landen’s fight to lose in this one. Landen will need to get the clinch where he will dominate, or go a little outside his comfort zone and look for a takedown. Using either one of those game plans he should be able to easily take control of this fight. Simms has the most fight experience in the tournament. Most people would think well that has to give him the biggest advantage. Well in all three of his fights Simms has won zero fights. He lost one by TKO and the other two by submission. If Simms gets luck and Landen tries to strike at range with him he could get lucky and win the fight, but I don’t see that happening. I got Landen to win by TKO in the first round.

Class Act 155lbs Tournament Round One Fight Number Fourteen

"Sir" Hector De Maris (1-1) {0-0} versus Tong Po (0-0) {0-0}

Maris is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he will have a massive advantage on the ground. I do not think Maris will be able to get Po to the ground, and if that is the case he still should have no problems. Hector has the better stand up back round and his chin has been tested, the results where good. Po does have good striking but I think Maris is just slightly better, and if the fight stays standing the entire time Maris will win on points. Po’s real strength is in his wrestling, but he should not be using that here. If he takes Maris down Maris will submit him before Po even knows what happened. My pick is Maris to win in the second round by submission.

Class Act 155lbs Tournament Round One Fight Number Fifteen

Fujimoto Taiki (0-1) {0-0} versus Kolt Ganger (0-0) {0-0}

Taiki is a far better striker than Ganger. He should look to keep the fight standing and mix his strikes up well. Inside and out, leg kicks to slow down the takedown attempts, and maybe even some clinch. Taiki will need to be deceptive and creative to stay on his feet in this one. Ganger is not a push over in the striking game but he is a bit out matched in this one. Since he is not completely dominated he should pick his opening and not just come in with a takedowns one after another. If he gasses out before he can get the fight to the mat Taiki will win. If he can get the fight to the ground Ganger should be able to end the fight quickly. I am picking Ganger to win by TKO in the second round.

Class Act 155lbs Tournament Round One Fight Number Sixteen

Floris "I.Q 83" Gump (1-0) {0-0} versus "The Whale" Rick James (1-0) {0-0}

Gump is a highly skilled Muay Thai striker and should look to keep this fight on the outside. A good mix up on the level of kicks should be good enough to keep James at bay. Gump should look to throw some body and leg kicks to wear down James and a heavy dose of head kicks will earn him a win in this tournament. James is a boxer and will want to get the fight to the inside. If he can get inside it will negate Gump’s kicks and then he will only need to worry about the clinch. A few good combos and some uppercuts and he could knock Gump out. I think James will be able to get to the inside but he will not be able to keep the entire fight there, and Gump will be able to get the big knockout via head kick in the first round.

That will wrap up the first round of the tournament. I still have Kanchai Suya to win the entire tournament but I feel Gump will be the stand out fighter of round one part two. I hope everyone has already picked up their tickets for day one and two because if it’s not already sold out it will be soon. So long from Tokyo and I will see you there
