Jermaine Johnson interview

Editorial by Harriet Marshall

Tony Rossi: “Hello I am Tony Rossi and I will be sitting down with Jermain "Big Nasty” Johnson today. Hello Mr. Johnson, How are we doing today?”

Big Nasty: “Yea I am great thank you and how are u today?”

Tony Rossi: “I’m doing just fine and thank you for asking. Now you have had a very impressive start to your career. Three fights, three wins with two of them being by knockout. In your first fight with Barbarian Fight Club you beat Diego Nunes by decision. You completely dominated the fight, could tell us how it felt to have your first fight in BFC, how it felt to win, and why do you think you could not get the stoppage?”

Big Nasty: “To be honest it was a very tough fight Diego is a great fighter he was 3-0 I was 2-0 so I knew it would not be easy but I feel it went well I got the w that's the main thing so I was over the moon to beat one of the best guys in the barbarian heavyweight division”

Tony Rossi: “Speaking of the Barbarian Heavyweight division your upcoming fight is against Brandon "The White Tiger" Loveladdy. He is currently undefeated but you are ranked a lot higher than him. This fight seems like you have a lot more to lose than to gain, what were you thinking when you where offered this fight? How do you feel about the current rankings in the Heavyweight division and if you win what’s next?”

Big Nasty: “Well as u all know the tournaments are coming up I am the highest ranked fighter there so I no getting a place in it is not the issue so I could have waited for a easy match but that's not me Brandon is undefeated same as my last opponent. I intend on being the champion if I achieve that goal I will have to fight the best so why not start now”

Tony Rossi: “That is a very good point, no reason to wait for better competition. Without giving away your entire game plan how do you plan on dealing with Loveladdy's boxing, the scouting report shows that he has a massive advantage in that department?”

Big Nasty: “Taking this fight we knew it was going to be really hard maybe my hardest challenge yet but that's what motivates me I have never taken an easy route in life. He's a beast very tough stand up game I have been working hard on my striking defense I hope I can utilize my wrestling skills to good affect also experience I hope plays its part in the fight I have had more fights and I am older so I am hoping to take him areas he has not been in a fight yet”

Tony Rossi: So you feel the age and fight experience will play a big part and there is no denying that. In my previews I always tend to look at age and fight experience before just about anything else. With that being said his manager has just a wealth of experience training fighters and making sure they attain their full potential. Loveladdy's team has been around for a long time and his manager has over 750 fights that he can draw different strategies from. Is that something you have thought about, and if so what advantages or disadvantages do you see with that much experience coming from the corner?”

Big Nasty: “Yea he has a great team behind him that is true I am at Steel Penn elite training center so I feel my potential is always going to progress well here. Also look at my manager the experience is less but the results are good so I feel my team is more than capable ov making me reach my goals and potential.”

Tony Rossi: “Yeah I know Steel Penn always puts together great camps. High level coaches and great sparing partners, so that could be a great advantage for you. It would seem that even if you lost this fight you would still make the cut for the top four heavyweights in BFC, so that should mean a tournament spot. Are you looking past this fight at all, with the potential title fight that is to come?”

Big Nasty: “You are right I will be in that event even if I do lose and then say I go out of the tournament in the first round a few wins and I would be in line for a shot of the new champ so in my eyes it's just a matter time of time until I get that strap. Hopefully I win against Brandon then win the tournament and defend my belt for a long time to come but who noes what's going to happen someone has to win and someone lose”

Tony Rossi: “Well that is about all the time we have, and I would like to thank you for coming.”

Big Nasty: “Thank you Mr. Rossi.”

Tony Rossi: “The pleasure is all mine.”
