Grundy vs Jose Preview

Event Preview: The Rise of Europa
The Evil Empire
2013-12-28, London, The H2O Arena
Author:Cynic Chris

Hello Fight fans King here bringing you the first event being held by the newly formed Ascension:Europa fight promotion, and damn have Meat and Jax put on one hell of a card for this special occasion. The event is titled The Rise of Europa and from the looks of the improvements that they have already made to the roster, I would say that is a true statement as Europa appears to have no where to go but up. The H20 Arena in London is going to be rocking, when the 20k MMA fans pack in to witness this great night of action. We have some of the best up and comers like Ziggy Cliff, Waru Kuzuri, and Optimus Rimes as well as future P4P Kings of the tycoon world like Jose Nabijos, and Benjamin Grundy on slate to do battle on this epic night. So lets get the event started......

265lbs-Katla"The Mischievous Inbred"Vanagandr(18-11)vsOuriel"The Chief"Semiazas(28-14)-Semiazas by (t)KO in the 2nd Rd.

205lbs-"Dutch Dynamite"Wilco Van Duijnhoven(17-4)vs"The Divine Destroyer"Lewis Creed(22-14)-Van Duijnhoven by UD

170lbs-Jaemin Jeong(13-7-1)vs"Rasta"Ziggy Cliff(14-6)

Our next contest will be held in the Welterweight division, Jaemin Jeong is coming off of decision loss in his last outting, but the 27 year old submission specialist will be looking to rebound with a win in this one. Jaemin has some pretty descent Wrestling and once he gets the fight on the mat, he is constinitly looking to improve his position and to capitalize on his opponents mistakes to lock up a submission which he has successfully done 11 times to date. Ziggy Cliff is a 28 year old Chris Karter Protege fighting out of that famed Convicted camp, and being on a 3 fight win streak only adds fuel to this hype train. Ziggy likes to throw a barrage of punches and kicks at his opponents before clinching them up and dirty Boxing the shit out of them. The guy hasn't showed any weaknesses to date with only being finished once in his career, and he has the power to end anybodies night in a hurry. Jeong needs to come out and look for the takedown often and early and he needs to secure one of those in order to even have a chance in this one. Ziggy looks to be the next big thing in the Welterweight division, and Jaemin will prolly be another brutalized victim on his way to the top.

135lbs-Tokugawa"The Seeker"Kazunari(20-7)vs"Wetwork Ninja"Waru Kuzuri(35-10)

We have a great Bantamweight match up next, and it'll be between these two top 1000 P4P fighters. Tokugawa Kazunari at 31 years old is just hitting his prime, and he has a well balanced arsenal that makes him a dangerous opponent for anyone. He has some pretty good striking with a nice mixture of punches and kicks, that he uses to set up one of his big takedowns. Once he has the fight on the ground he unleashes some nasty ground n pound, and he is always staying busy while using his Elite Wrestling to control his opponent and preventing them from getting any offense going. Waru Kuzuri is BAMF from the Ethan Downs camp and has already hit number 2 pound for pound, and currently sitting in the top 400 he wants to get back to the top of the mountain. Waru loves to stand and bang, and is always coming forward taking the fight to his opponent and looking to take his head off. Tokugawa needs to get this fight to the ground because I don't think that he will want to trade with a guy that has 17 knock outs on his record. If Waru can sprawl the takedown attempts he should be able to pick his opponent off and at least win the judges nod.

205lbs-"The Stinker"Bitchface Poopypants(14-6)vsRoberto"Droppin The Big"Klinkhammer(13-7)

Our next contest takes place in the Light Heavyweight division, and the winner will surely put themselves in the title picture. Bitchface Poopypants relies on his Boxing ability to help him win his fights, and that makes him pretty one dimensional but even with that he has been able to Knockout 10 of his opponents. Bitchface is always head hunting, and has the power to stop his opponent if he is able to land cleanly so we could see some fireworks in this one. Roberto Klinkhammer is always so pure boxer, but what a lot of people don't know about him is he has an underrated grappling game and lands over 70% of his takedown attempts. He also is a headhunter, but is a little slopper with his strikes than his opponent which may leave him open to counters. Both of these fighters love to stand and bang and they both have the power to end the fight, so it will be interesting to see which one can pull out the victory here as it may very well come down to who has the better chin.

170lbs-Nebojsa"The Balkan Boy"Mihattovic(14-8-2)vsJohn Bonham(11-3)

Our Main Card kicks off with an exciting Welterweight Match up , Nebojsa Miharrovic is a Muay Thai beast with a huge arsenal of Kicks in his trick bag. He also has some descent Boxing to compliment in his striking game, and his clinch game is nothing to be ashamed of either with a great mixture of dirty Boxing and some nasty elbows. This will be Mihattovic debut after spending the majority of his career in NY at TTFC, but will be coming in on a loss that may affect his confidence. John Bonham recently just made the move to Welterweight all the way from Bantamweight but has found early success winning his first fight at his new home. At 28 years old and a very strong skill set John could be a future force at Welterweight, and his striking is top notch. He throws a lot of punches and kicks from distance, and also looks to tear his opponent up with his dirty Boxing. This should be a pretty solid stand up battle, and we'll prolly see quite a bit of clinch work as well. I think that Bonham should be able to get the better of the exchanges, and will prolly be the one to press the action and earn himself a victory.

170lbs-Dmitry Volkov(7-5)vs"The Wemmer Pan Killer"Cedric Maake(8-2-1)

Our next contest is also in the Welterweight division, we should get some good contenders for the title after this night of action. Dmitry Volkov comes in on a 4 fight win streak and is on the youngest guy on this card, which is a hell of a statement for the 22 year old. Dmitry is an Olympic level Boxer with fast hands and pin point accuracy, having landed over 75% of his total punches thrown. So when you are facing this guy you better be on your bicycle and ready to get out the way of danger, because when he throws he generally lands. Cedric Maake at 21 years old is the youngest competitor on the card, but he usually appears to be a man amongst boys out there. Cedric has a pretty nice amateur Boxing background, and he throws a lot of head shots but gets pretty crazy with most of them and leaves himself opening. I think that Dmitry will prolly just pick Cedric apart here, and will prolly do so much damage in the first round that he will be able to get a stoppage.

265lbs-"Sir"Tor Pellinore(11-0)vsHoly Jenova(8-0)

Next up we have two of the big boys going to throw down in a battle of undefeateds, and one guy will be losing his "0". Tor Pellinore is a Muay Thai expert with some nasty kicks and Knockout power in all 4 limbs, which is what has helped him to an impressive 11-0 record up until this point in his career. Tor is the current BFE Super Heavyweight Champion, but is looking to add another Championship belt to his trophy case. Holy Jenova is a 24 year old stud, who already has a very well rounded skill set and at 8-0 has a huge upside. Holy is a clinch beast and once he is able to get the fight there he just bullies and punishes them with his dirty Boxing. With 8 knockouts between the two of them this one is sure to be a thunderous event, and the winner will definitely have some serious bragging rights as this is the toughest test either one has faced. Tor will want to use his striking advantage and power to try to score a quick knockout, while Holy will want to get in close and damage his opponent with his clinch work. This one will come down to who is about to execute their game plan the best.

265lbs+ Championship-Optimus"Prime"Rimes(12-4)vsDonald Fraser(28-22)

In our Co Main event of the evening we have the Super Heavyweight Title on the line, and the winner will be the first Ascension:Europa Champion. Optimus Rimes is a 27 year old who knows how to finish a fight, and has done so in 11 of his 12 career victories. Optimus has world class Muay Thai with a combination of some lethal kicks and brutal knees that he uses to overwhelm his opponents, and the moral to the story is if Rimes gets you in the clinch he is going to hurt you and he is going to enjoy every minute of it. He is pretty light for a Super Heavyweight so he will prolly look to push the action and wear his bigger opponent out with his nasty leg kicks and body shots. Donald Fraser will definitely have the experience advantage in this one with this going to be his 51st professional fight, so I'm sure that Rimes won't throw anything at him that he hasn't seen but the question is will he be able to do anything about it? Donald has very high level Boxing, that he likes to use at distance and in close in the clinch. He has 24 knockouts to his name and a ton of power, so he'll opponent will have to be on his game at all times because one good shot could turn out the lights. This fight will prolly take place everywhere but the ground, so it is sure to be a good show for the fans. I think that Rimes will have the major advantages when the fight goes into the clinch, but should also be able to hold his own while striking as long as he doesn't get to comfortable and respects the power of his opponent. Fraser is going to look to avoid the clinch and punish the quicker smaller fighter with his crisp Punches and nice footwork.

205lbs-Benjamin Grundy(25-11)vsJose"Scarface"Nabijos(42-10-1)

Its finally time for our Main event of the evening and we have an absolutely great match up in the Light Heavyweight division, between these two top 200 P4P fighters. Benjamin Grundy has been around the top of the weight class for sometime now, and after falling short against current P4P King Smokudja Womba twice at Evo he decided that a change of scenery was needed so he joined the Europa roster. Grundy has some Great striking and throws a good combination of punches and kicks at his opponent, but sometimes he may get a little carried away as he kinda lives by the sword and dies by the sword with almost all of his victories and losses being by knockout. Jose Nabijos at 34 years old and over 50 fights doesn't have a whole lot left to prove, other than he is still a BAMF! Jose likes to punish his opponent from the outside with leg and body kicks then when they start to slow a little he comes in for the kill with some brutal head shots and he has bricks for fist, and those bricks have earned him 30 knockouts up until this point in his career. Both of these guys have similar skill sets and similar fight styles, so this should make for a great match up and hopefully one that the fans will remember for a long time. I think both guys are going to come out fast and look to pick their opponent apart, but Jose has the better chin so he should be about to weather the storm of Grundy and wear him down enough to go in for the kill.

There you have it folks, looks like Ascension:Europa should kick off with a bang and if this is a sign of things to come we may look looking a future main brand promotion for years to come. Thanks goes to Meat and Jax for putting on such a great card, Jax for the great event poster, and KAISER Nutrition for sponsoring this event. Also make sure to head over to Medieval Odds and place your bets, as the lines are up already. Thanks and make sure to check in next time of another great event.
