Q&A Session with Malakai "Scorpion" Semerkhet

Fighter profile of Malakai Semerkhet by

QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION WITH MALAKAI “SCORPION” SEMERKHET (223405) written by Furious Styles

Q: Greetings mixed martial arts and fight fans, I hope all of you are well. Today I will be interviewing a newly crowned Featherweight champion by the name of Malakai “Scorpion” Semerkhet. Welcome Malakai.

Malakai: Hello, and thank you very much for having me here today.

Q: First off, congratulations on your recently becoming a Featherweight champion in the Steel Penn – New York Organization! That must be very exciting for you.

Malakai: It is indeed very exciting for me, thank you! Like all fighters I assume, when I first began training in martial arts as a kid, I always wanted to earn the distinction and honor of being a champion. Now that is has come true, it has only inspired me to improve upon myself even more.

Q: I notice that your very first fight was a Unanimous Decision loss to the fighter, Benjamin Franklin. How did you feel about beginning your professional career with a loss?

Malakai: I definitely took that loss hard because I heard the whispers around me of me being too young and having the fight too early in my career. Plus, let’s be honest, when a fighter opts to call himself Benjamin Franklin, losing to said fighter is both embarrassing but also very humbling! I admit I was overconfident and that cost me a lot.

Q: I can see that as being the case. However, after that loss, you turned things around quite nicely for yourself, compiling four straight victories, and each of them has been either a knockout or a technical knockout. In fact, your very next fight, you won in only five seconds! What changed?

Malakai: Losing my very first match made me far hungrier to win my very first match! I replayed that loss in my mind countless times and swore that I would represent myself and my hometown far better the next time I stepped into the ring. I trained very diligently and continue to do so because anything less is not acceptable. There are far too many excellent fighters in MMATycoon for me to rest on any laurels. I want to be a fighting champion who accepts all challenges and busts his butt to fight to the best of his ability.

Q: What went through your mind after you won the Steel Penn New York Featherweight Title, in twenty-six seconds in fact?

Malakai: A tremendous sense of relief! I placed a vast amount of pressure upon myself for that fight because I knew numerous people would be watching, especially my friends and family, and I wanted to prove my hard work wasn’t for naught. I received numerous texts, email and Tweets from people in Luxor and that filled me with a great sense of pride.

I know Tony Frank is a very good fighter and I had to be at my very best to overcome his abilities because, as everyone knows, standup fighters don’t necessarily like to fight on the ground, haha.

Q: I noticed that leading up to your fights, and after your fights, you wear HMFL Old School Tee’s and Shorts. What is it about those clothes you like?

Malakai: Come on now, the Punisher symbol is awesome! Backyard Fighting recently presented me with a sponsorship, of which I’m extremely proud and I want to make that excellent company proud of sponsoring me. I also very much like the way the clothes look as Black and Red are definitely two of my favorite colors. I also take the approach of the comic book character in terms of trying not to let anything deter me from what I want to achieve. Let’s be honest. Mixed martial arts is a brutal sport and the name of the game is to punish and finish your opponent if you can.

Q: Completely off topic, but I have to ask. Have you been to Las Vegas and visited the Luxor hotel?

Malakai: Haha, no, I’ve not had the pleasure of visiting Las Vegas of the Luxor Hotel as of yet. I’m still too young to truly get the feel of Vegas, plus I do my best to steer clear of various…temptations…because as a dedicated fighter, there are various temptations that can absolutely derail a career. Don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate some of those temptations, but I just keep it to a visual involvement.

Q: Last question: Does your last name have any historical significance?

Malakai: A very good question. I’m sure you’ve figured out that I take great pride in being from Luxor, as well as being an Egyptian. Egyptian history is very fascinating to me and I take great pride in the accomplishments of my ancestors! My last name is in honor of the Pharaoh, Semerkhet. History states he experienced great difficulties during his reign in the First Dynasty, but despite that, his name was translated as “thoughtful friend”. Life can be very difficult for anyone, but I always want to put others before myself and remain humble.

Some fighters tend to be braggadocios, and if that helps them then good for them. Personally I feel that, as fighters, we should be grateful for the opportunity to do what we love for a living, receive pay, and have devout – and sometimes fanatical – fans who support us through thick and thin. I will always be grateful to any fans I have and to any companies that support me, as I feel that is only right. My manager, Furious Styles, emphasizes this often, and the veteran fighters at Steel Penn’s Furious Styles gym also keep me very much in check, often during sparring sessions, haha.

Q: You didn’t choose to enter into any of your fights with music until after you won the title. Why is that?

Malakai: I simply felt that I didn’t deserve to be loud, if you will, without accomplishing anything to prove I have the right to be loud. Since I didn’t accomplish anything in my opinion, until I won this title, I felt I didn’t have the right to make a loud entrance until I did so on my own.

Q: Well Malakai, that’s our time today. Thank you very much for your candid, insightful answers. I wish you the best of luck with your first title defense against Simon GM.

Malakai: Thank you again, very much, for this opportunity, and I accept all luck in all fights. I expect nothing less than an arduous battle against Simon GM and as a champion, that is what I want to experience, so I may prove my worthiness as a champion.
